The mission of Abilities First is Turning Abilities Into Opportunities.
Abilities First is an organization that promotes inclusive opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. We believe that everyone has abilities and by ensuring that people have the opportunity to use their abilities, we make our community better for all of us. Abilities First uses public and private funds to support the choices of individuals with developmental disabilities in Greene County to live, work, play, be active, and productive in meaningful ways in our community.

At Abilities First, we know our words and actions help shape places where people feel valued and belong: at work, at home, and throughout our community.
We work to do better every day. This month, we’re embracing No Shade November, and we invite you to join us:
• Be more curious before making assumptions.
• Turn frustrations into clear, respectful requests.
• Recognize strengths and offer support.
• Give yourself, and others, grace.
Honest conversations matter. How we approach them matters, too. Together, we can bring more care, accountability, and hope to our everyday interactions.
One Team. One Mission. A community where we all belong.

Meaningful inclusion grows when people help shape the community they call home.
Abilities First CEO Maggie Rollwagen and Abilities First board member Captain Mark Foos of the Springfield, MO Police Department joined a community conversation this evening at Springfield-Greene County Library District focused on inclusion for people with autism and their families. The discussion explored how stronger connections can create more opportunities to participate, contribute, and belong.
Thank you to the Missouri State University student, Milayla Campbell, who brought people together and guided this thoughtful conversation. We appreciate the care and initiative behind this work.
What we do with what we learn helps turn inclusion into everyday experiences of inclusion and belonging.

As we reset our clocks, let’s keep our focus forward: people with disabilities choosing where they live, accessing the support they need, and belonging in their communities.
At Abilities First, turning abilities into opportunities means listening to people, respecting their choices, and working together to make those choices possible.
