FOR SALE: Cloud
15yr old, 15’1hh Andalusian/Northland Bush gelding
Quirky little guy with a big heart. Cloud’s a sensitive wee soul who needs to find his one person to love and be loved by. He has shown us that he doesn't like lots of different riders so is not suited to being part of the Hitch a Ride team. Cloud is a very forward ride with a very soft mouth. He is not suitable for inexperienced or nervous riders or anyone with a hot seat who isn’t prepared for him to match their energy 110%. At PV, he’s done lots of hacking and popped a few logs out on the trails, but we’ve found he doesn’t cope well in group settings or anywhere where he has to be contained and ‘stick with the group’ so to speak - he likes to get on with it and mosey along at his own pace; a lovely smooth, forward walk or a few trots and canters. He’s got a big engine and will motor up our steepest hill no problem and then cruise on the buckle the rest of the ride. Very sure footed and steady over rough hills and wet tracks.
We’ve found him much better on a track system/sugar free diet, the Waikato grasses don’t agree with his sensitive disposition. He can be a bit of a character to catch, likes to test the boundaries and see if you really mean it, but a few treats in your pocket and a bit of patience and he’ll follow you around the paddock like a big puppy. He’s an absolute sweetheart to have around the yard, very affectionate and eager to please, good to hose down, tack up, brush, trim and worm, though he can be a bit head shy with new people. Lives off the smell of an oily rag and easy to paddock with others - mares or geldings, he’s not fussed.
Our ideal for Cloud would be for him to go to an endurance home, hopefully as someone’s main ride where he can have full one-on-one attention and really learn to trust the world isn’t out to get him and where he can just get on and do a job without too much stress about rules and fancy questions. He’s not cut out for dressage or high-pressure showjumping as the expectations just cooks his little brain but give him a big open track and a loose rein and he’s in his happy place.
Cloud is a very special boy who’s much loved by the team here and will be greatly missed but the right call for him is to find his own special place to thrive and not have to worry about meeting new people every ride. NO beginners or nervous riders.

For Sale : KAHU
5yr old 14’1hh Northland Bush pony mare, born 17 September 2021.
Dam: Lady Eleanor
Sire: Ruggedly handsome Northland stallion
Kahu was born here at Pleasant View and has been a real character from day dot. She loves a little snack or a nice whither scratch and is quiet and calm to handle on the ground if you don’t mind the odd grumpy mare face. Good for the farrier, beautiful tough little feet, doesn’t mind a cold bath and was clipped for the first time this year and didn’t give a toss. She can be a little pushy on the lead and has a stubborn streak about not wanting to go where she doesn’t want to but this is easily managed with an experienced hand.
Broken in in November 2024, took it all in her stride and has been very cruisey about the whole riding idea. She had a big break to grow after the initial backing and has come back into work after six months off with no issues, happily tootles out on the farm on her own or pops around the arena with basic flatwork. We can see her excelling as a child or teenagers’ second or third pony, someone who’s confident and experienced enough to produce a young pony who may still find things in life that scare her or that she doesn’t know about. Would make an awesome mounted games type pony in a few years.
Kahu has not been on a float yet. This will be done prior to rehoming.

After 367 days Crunchie has finally produced a mini Crunchie. A big filly successfully delivered at 5.15am under the watchful eye of experienced midwives (thanks Courtney and Amy for freezing your toes off). The sire is warmblood stallion Mitanas Avita Image. Crunchie has done so well on Day 1 of motherhood, even if after delivering her baby she buggered off for a chat over the fence with Gemma 🤣 She had to be bought back and reminded that she now had a baby.
Send your name suggestions through. Kit Kat is on the list.

Briar is heading off to follow her dreams so we are looking for a special someone to replace her. She’s going to be missed terribly so you have big shoes to fill.
You will be a confident and experienced rider able to exercise and school a range of horses from ponies to 17HH. We have dressage and SJ arenas, a XC course and the farm to hack out. You will be trustworthy, have excellent time management, have attention to detail, be happy to take rides out around the farm (including ponying beginner riders), get horses ready for clients and most importantly, have a friendly disposition, be professional and able to work as part of a wider team.
Duties also include feed-out, keeping yards and tack room beautifully tidy and everything that goes with looking after a large team of horses who really do have names from A-Z ! Every day at Pleasant View is different. We have crazy busy days, quieter days and run a pretty tight, well organised yard.
Hourly rate applies. Hours of work are generally 9am to 3pm but this can change depending on what is going on. Full orientation period will be provided for the successful applicant.
If you think you are possibly Briar 2.0 please email your application with CV to [email protected]

We have 7 new yards finished today. I think Chris and Greg have done a great job. The fences can be switched off during the day and on at night (master switch by main gate). There’s a tap for filling BYO water buckets too.

FOR SALE: GEMMA
Gemma is a 14-year-old half Andalusian grey mare. She is14.2HH. I bought Gemma as an in-foal mare with the plan that once her foal had been weaned, she would join the Hitch a Ride team. Her previous owner had trekked her extensively. While she has been with us, she has had regular trims, dental, worming and bodywork. Gemma is a lovely gentle natured pony who has shown us that she would prefer a life where she is not ridden so is being offered for sale as a pony broodmare or paddock mate. Bodywork has identified that in the past she has had a serious injury to her left hind end; SI joint is unstable, the left side of her body and stifle is holding tension. Gemma has produced two foals: a filly and a c**t. The last foaling was here at PV where she had no delivery problems and was a good mum. If she is to be used as a broodmare, I would strongly suggest that she should only be put to pony stallions to reduce the chances of further injury to a lovely mare. I would like her to go to a home where she will be looked after as well as she has been here.
