*Notice to Residents of Meerensee*

Good evening,

At our recent Committee meeting, the matter of patrollers was raised.

Currently, only a very small number of individuals are actively patrolling, and it is often the same dedicated few who continue to serve.

As a result, our team is stretched extremely thin, yet expectations remain high. This situation is deeply frustrating for those who sacrifice rest and family time, while also enduring negative and discouraging remarks from residents. It is important to understand that the CPF cannot manage the safety of the entire Meerensee community alone.

Active involvement from residents is essential. We therefore urge you to take responsibility by arranging patrols among yourselves and forming street groups to share the workload. Should you wish to become an active patroller or responder, you are welcome to contact Mel directly.

Without broader community participation, the CPF will not be able to continue in its current capacity, as our limited team is facing burnout. We appeal to you, the residents, to do your part while we continue to do ours.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Regards,
Meerensee CPF

Good evening residents,

Please avoid putting your bins out at night before collection day. Unfortunately, this attracts trolley pushers and vagrants, which increases the risk of house break-ins and bin theft.

When patrollers encounter these individuals, they often claim to be “bin diggers,” making it difficult to take action. Once patrols move on, break-ins tend to occur. This situation is making crime control more challenging, and our call-outs on Sunday evenings and early mornings have doubled.

We ask all residents to consider the safety of the community, as well as the fact that patrollers and responders are volunteering their time and covering costs from their own pockets. Your cooperation will help us keep crime under control.

Good evening residents,

Tonight, our responders participated in a training session hosted by the Durban Drug Unit, focusing on current drug trends and indicators. This training was crucial in educating our team about the growing issue of substance abuse, which is rapidly evolving into a pandemic.

In Richards Bay, he**in, methcathinone khat (cat), and ma*****na are commonly used substances. Alarmingly, we were informed that children are experimenting with khat, prompting us to urge parents to engage with their children, monitor their associations, and verify their whereabouts.

Dealers are targeting vulnerable individuals, and it is imperative that parents report suspicious activity to prevent further devastation.

The CPF would like to thank the Durban Drug Unit and Baywolf Security for their contributions to tonight's training. We appreciate our responders' dedication to maintaining safety in Meerensee.
