The true magic of adventure isn’t just found in the wild waters we fish or the remote landscapes we cross, it’s woven into the souls of the people who call those places home.

Deep in the heart of the Southern African bush, while pushing into raw, untamed waters on fly in pursuit of Tigerfish, I had the absolute honor of meeting a living legend: Mr. Edwin - the African Birdman.

​Out here, the wilderness speaks its own intricate language, and Edwin understands every single word. This man can mimic a staggering array of bird calls with eerie perfection, calling to the canopy as if speaking to old friends.

Standing under the riverine trees, he can identify and name a record number of birds off the top of his head without a moment's hesitation. A true master of his craft, a walking library of ecological wisdom, and a humble guardian of the bush.

​I salute you, Mr. Edwin. Thank you for sharing your gift and reminding us to stop, listen, and truly look at the world around us.
