African Leadership Academy
Developing the next generation of African leaders. At African Leadership Academy we define the future of education through our ground breaking programs.
We are shaping tomorrow by developing young leaders with the courage to think differently, to break boundaries, to lead teams and enable positive change. We design programs that reflect all we know about how leaders are developed. Our programs mould thinkers with the capacity to act; they create strong networks and offer access to transformative opportunities; they challenge students to practice and commit to continuous innovation and improvement. Our programs continue over the course of a lifetime. Education at ALA is not about a grade, it is about a way of life. We seek young leaders who commit each day to authoring the future they desire for themselves and for others.

A celebration of competition, creativity, and connection!
Our sports and chess teams recently joined students from across South Africa and neighbouring countries at the St Peter’s College Sport & Cultural Festival, embracing an opportunity to compete, challenge themselves, and connect with young people from different school communities.
From teamwork on the field to strategy across the chessboard, our students represented ALA while putting their skills, sportsmanship, and determination into action!

Small actions can make a meaningful difference🌍
When disaster struck communities in Malawi, Mahara stepped up, bringing his classmates together to support families in need. Through their collective efforts, they raised K650,000 and gathered clothing, bedding, and toys for the Malawi Red Cross Society.
Even when limited resources presented challenges, Mahara remained focused on finding ways to help, proving that making an impact starts with a willingness to act and the determination to keep going!
His initiative reflects the power of young people to turn compassion into action and inspire change within their communities.

A few moments from a day dedicated to connection, learning, and growth!
Our All Staff annual event brought the ALA team together to step away from the everyday, reconnect with colleagues, exchange ideas, and invest in our own leadership journeys.
Across conversations, collaborations, and plenty of moments together, the day was a reminder that the strength of ALA comes from the people who make up our community.
From the opportunities and people she encountered to the resilience, confidence, and work ethic she developed, Lehlabile’s time at ALA prepared her to step into unfamiliar spaces and make her voice heard.
When she arrived at university in the United States, the transition was challenging, but the lessons and community she gained at ALA helped her navigate a new environment with confidence, reminding her that she belonged in every room she entered.
What could your ALA journey prepare you for? Apply today and discover what’s possible!

What if finding your community could also help you deepen your understanding of Africa and your role in its future?
For ALA alumna Rati, joining ALA in 2016 meant finding a community of people who shared her passion for African development, a community that continues to shape her journey today!
Could ALA be where you find your community, discover your potential, and begin shaping the difference you want to make?

A celebration of culture, creativity, and connection🌍
Taalu brought our community together for an experience that celebrated the richness of African culture and the many ways we express, share, and connect with it.
From the energy of the event to the people who brought it to life, there was plenty to celebrate. Take a look back at some of the moments that made Taalu special!
For Adler, arriving at ALA came with expectations of personal growth but the reality looked very different.
Adapting to a new environment, navigating different languages and cultures, and adjusting to a new academic system all came with challenges. What made the difference was knowing he didn’t have to navigate them alone.
Through the support of advisors, deans, teachers, and friends, Adler found a community that challenged him, encouraged him, and became part of his growth journey!

Taalu is an Arabic word meaning "come together," and every year, that's exactly what the African Leadership Academy community does.
Our cultural homecoming is one of the first big celebrations of the academic year. Students, staff, and faculty from across Africa and beyond arrive in traditional and cultural attire to celebrate our countries, languages, music, dance, food, and stories, loudly and together. At the centre of it all is the Parade of Nations, where each country represented at ALA takes the stage for its own joyful, unapologetic celebration.
This year's theme, Homecoming, came with a twist: we never return as the same people. Guided by the baobab tree, TAALU 2026 invited our community to honour its roots, draw strength from what holds us steady, reach toward new growth, and gather as one under a shared canopy.
To our Year 1 students, SEGLs, and new Staffulty, and to every returning member of our community: welcome home.
