LIONSROCK is a lifelong sanctuary for big cats in need, literally. 🐾❤️

As our feline residents grow older, like brothers Jengo, Maru and Samson, they receive closer monitoring and specialised care to ensure they can enjoy their golden years in comfort. 🦁🦁🦁

Join us as our dedicated team carefully relocates them to our Special Care Unit, where they can receive the extra attention, comfort and care they deserve. 🥰

Born in France in 2019, Romeo 🦁 was once used in circus performances before neglect left him confined to a tiny cage. 💔

Romeo was among the three rescued thanks to APA, Natuurhulpcentrum and Stichting AAP. 🐾

On 15 May 2024, Romeo arrived at LIONSROCK, where he now enjoys freedom and care. ❤️

Romeo’s calm and gentle nature has made him one of the sanctuary’s beloved big cats. 🤩

With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Tulani. 🌈🐾

One of our senior leopards at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary who passed away at the age of 23. Tulani had been part of LIONSROCK “since forever,” one of the animals already living on the property when FOUR PAWS took it over in 2006.

In recent months, Tulani’s age began to show more clearly. She grew slower and stiffer in her movements, experienced muscle atrophy and ate more slowly and less often. She was occasionally seen coughing and sometimes refused food altogether. Despite supportive treatments that brought temporary improvements, her condition continued to decline. When she eventually stopped taking her medication, the difficult but compassionate decision was made to let her go, sparing her further suffering. 🌈

Tulani’s passing leaves a deep void, especially for leopard Mike, with whom she shared her life for many years. 💚

Rest well, Tulani. You will be greatly missed.

🦁 Juba, one of our beloved residents at LIONSROCK, turns 11 years old today, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far he’s come! 🥳

Once purchased to guard a farm alongside his companion Micca, Juba’s journey took a dramatic turn when a veld fire destroyed their enclosure in 2018. 💔

Both lions found a safe haven at LIONSROCK, where they now thrive in a species-appropriate environment. 🐾

Be sure to send your birthday wishes in the comments below! 📢

🐯 Shevar, born in 2012 at Bloemfontein Zoo, he and his brother Sharukh 🐯 faced an uncertain future when the zoo closed and animals were left without proper care. 🥺

Following a collaborative rescue operation involving multiple organisations and FOUR PAWS, Shevar and his brother were transferred to LIONSROCK in March 2020 🐾. Today, they are continue to thrive under the African sun.☀️ 🤩

Did you know that you could symbolically adopt tigers Shevar and Sharukh?
