Hello everybody it’s Simone Stevens here I know we haven’t been online for a long time and I do apologise but I have found work and I have been extremely busy like Nicole Spehar I hope everyone is doing alright and if anyone needs anything please please let us know by all means
If you’re from Geelong I want to hear from you please leave a comment in the comment box I’m doing a research project with the Geelong hospital at the moment they have a disability liaison officer but the thing is hardly anyone knows about it we want to know all feedback good bad and other if you want to participate can you please let me know and I will personally let you know How are you can participate If you want to. Who they want to hear from is people with disabilities parents and families of people with disabilities as well as advocates organisations and other people who look after people with disabilities is this is you or if you want to get in contact with me as I said before leave a message Jim below and I will contact you and let you know how You can participate and be involved we want to improve services which hopefully will filter through down to every single hospital but first and foremost we need to start somewhere first And I have made it my destiny To start with Geelong hospital first

Five year ban for charged carer ‘insulting to Annie’, says uncle A five-year ban against the carer charged over the death of her disability client, Ann Marie Smith, is “insulting” and sends “an entirely wrong message” to the disability sector, Annie’s uncle Glenn Smith has told The Advertiser.

Excited as I just got my new joystick 🕹 for my electric wheelchair 🧑🏻🦼
💜 So for the past 18 months I have had this fight with Barwon Health (Geelong Hospital) to have a disability liaison officer appointed well today I found out that it has all come true it has come to fruition but the thing is I am trying to figure out is if the person that has been appointed has got qualifications and disability all most importantly have they got lived experience because at the end of the day you were dealing with people with a disability their families support workers disability organisations sometimes the NDIS and other family members and you need some level of understanding of the hospital and how it runs and who better to have that position then a person with a disability who is competent and knows the hospital and the hospital system and knows how to communicate with people with disabilities their families and support workers as well as disability organisations and the NDIS now I just feel nervous extremely nervous I hope that whoever has been appointed has got the qualifications
For those of you who have disabilities or support people with disabilities whether or not personal or professionally on here can you please if you feel comfortable leave a message in the comments section and let me know what you think because I don’t know if I’m overthinking or what but I just want to improve the health system and make it fair for everyone. Simone 💜
