St. Croix Educational Complex High School

The administrators of the Mote Marine Laboratory in Florida, selected the SCECHS Marine Biology I classes for a pilot program to bring their research on corals directly into the classroom.

The educational program this week focused on coral reef ecology, marine conservation, climate impacts on reefs, coral disease research, and marine-science career pathways.

The students were engaged in hands-on activities, interactive discussions, demonstrations, games, and a field trip to "The Nature Conservancy."

Thumbs up to the Mote Marine Laboratory facilitators:

Ms. Jade Bosco, Education Program Manager

Mr. Ayi Ajavon, Staff Biologist

As part of a longstanding tradition during every election cycle, we hosted our Senatorial Forum yesterday and our Gubernatorial Forum today, giving students a firsthand opportunity to hear from candidates and learn about the issues shaping our community.

These educational forums provided an important platform for students to ask questions, listen to diverse perspectives, and become more informed voters as they prepare to participate in the school's Mock Election on October 20, 2026.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all the candidates who generously shared their time, insights, and visions for the future. We also commend our students for their thoughtful engagement, respectful participation, and genuine interest in the electoral process.

Special thanks to the Social Studies Department, led by Department Chairperson Ms. Stanley, for coordinating these impactful events and continuing to foster civic responsibility among our students. We also thank Mr. Lockhart for serving as moderator and facilitating meaningful discussions throughout both forums.

By bringing the electoral process directly to our students, we continue to empower the next generation of informed, engaged, and responsible citizens.
