BVIHSA Health Alert / Saharan Dust Advisory
A significant plume of Saharan dust is affecting the British Virgin Islands, resulting in poor air quality. The BVIHSA encourages everyone to take precautions, especially persons with asthma, allergies, chronic respiratory or heart conditions, older adults, pregnant women, and young children.
Protect Yourself:
- Limit prolonged outdoor activities.
- Keep windows and doors closed.
- Stay hydrated.
- Wear a well-fitted N95/KN95 mask if outdoors or in dusty conditions.
- Keep asthma inhalers and prescribed medications close at hand.
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience severe shortness of breath, chest pain, or worsening respiratory symptoms.
Your health is our priority. Stay informed, stay protected, and take the necessary precautions while dust levels remain elevated.

BVIHSA recently completed a three-day Healthcare Transformation and Leadership Development Workshop delivered in partnership with Healthcare Transformation Solutions (HTS) for Nurse Managers, Nursing Supervisors, and Charge Nurses, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in care delivery.
Through strategic partnerships and continuous professional development, we are empowering our nursing leaders to drive innovation, quality improvement, and positive patient outcomes across our healthcare system.
Together, we are building a healthier Virgin Islands.
Today’s students are tomorrow’s doctors, nurses, therapists, technologists, and healthcare leaders, and we’re proud to be part of their journey.
At BVIHSA, developing the next generation of healthcare professionals is more than a responsibility; it is an investment in the future health and well-being of our community.
Whether through our participation in the Ministry of Education’s Career Week, welcoming college students through our Summer Programme, hosting medical students for observership opportunities, or supporting international nursing students in their clinical learning experiences, we are committed to providing meaningful exposure, mentorship, and real-world healthcare experiences.
