πŸ‚ It’s finally cold in Goshen County today, the first time this season, and it has me thinking about holiday food...

I’m sitting here finishing some book work, listening to the soft autumn rain, and thinking back to my childhood. So many of my memories were formed around food. Anyone who knows me knows fall is my favorite everything: my favorite season, smell, taste, sound and color!

One of my favorite smells of fall is fresh pumpkin. It reminds me of family, togetherness... and pumpkin seeds. πŸŽƒ

Thanksgiving is the smell of sage for me. Every year my sister and I would fight over who got to break the wishbone, and Mom cooked for days. Now my children argue over whether it’s β€œPEA-CAN” or β€œPEA-CON” pie, and they plead with me to make my twice-baked potatoes. Some of them even volunteer to help in the kitchen. πŸ₯§πŸ₯”

And cinnamon is Christmas. Mom baked all month, or so it seemed: cookies, candies, bars, fudge. She made sure there was never a shortage of goodies during the holidays. πŸŽ„

So tell me, what are YOUR favorite holiday foods? πŸ’›

πŸ₯„ THANK YOU, Goshen County! πŸ’›

I am overwhelmed by the amazing feedback on my proposed menu. Your comments, ideas and requests have given me so much to think about, and I'm reading every single one. Please keep them coming. This is all for YOU!

Next week I'll be sharing another proposal, so stay tuned. πŸ‘€

And speaking of good food... on MY menu tonight: Irish Beef Stew with Cheddar Dumplings! 🍲 Tender beef, carrots and potatoes in a rich gravy, topped with fluffy cheddar dumplings. Perfect for a chilly fall night.

What's your favorite comfort food for cold weather? Tell me below! ⬇️

πŸ₯„ Help me plan something special for Goshen County!

I'm in the planning phase of a new restaurant dream, and I'd love your honest opinion. Take a look at the proposed menu and tell me what you think!

✨ What would you order first?
✨ Is there a dish you'd love to see that's not on there?
✨ Anything you'd change?

A few things I'm planning: homemade bread, croissants and bread bowls, a soup flight (pick four small tastings from eight soups), a rotating daily comfort plate, kids' meals, and fresh bakery items at the counter.

Nothing is final, and I may make changes based on what you tell me. Every comment helps! πŸ’›

Saw these stuffed pan dulce muffins going viral from and had to try them! 🍫✨

Soft, sweet bread loaded with chocolate chips, with a pocket of dulce de leche hiding in the middle. The tops came out golden and glossy, and when you pull one apart the dulce de leche just oozes out. 🀀

It's a two-step dough (a quick sponge first, then the main dough), so it takes a little patience, but it's honestly so worth it. I converted the original Argentine recipe to cups if anyone wants it, just drop a comment! πŸ‘‡

Tonight's dinner: spaghetti with homemade Italian meatballs. Simple as that sounds, it's easily one of the most requested meals in our house β€” I'd guess most of us could eat it five times a month and never get tired of it.

There's something about home cooking that you just can't rush. Fresh herbs simmered low and slow, a sauce you taste and adjust as you go β€” a little more seasoning here, a little more time there β€” until it's exactly right. And the meatballs? Made from scratch, no shortcuts. It's not a 20-minute jar-sauce night. It's the kind of meal that fills the house with a smell that pulls everyone to the kitchen before it's even done.

Soft, fluffy homemade breadsticks on the side, and even the "vegetable" got the slow-roast treatment tonight β€” a spaghetti squash, herbs tucked right into the center, roasted until it practically shreds itself.

This is exactly the kind of cooking I'd want to bring to the table if I take over that restaurant β€” real ingredients, real time, nothing rushed. No shortcuts, just food made the way it should be.

Now I want to hear from you: does your house do a meatless sauce night, or is a good homemade meatball non-negotiable? And have you ever swapped regular noodles for spaghetti squash β€” love it, or noodles forever? Tell me your take in the comments!

Confession: German pancakes (also called Dutch babies) might be one of my favorite breakfasts, and I think they need to be a permanent fixture on our menu.

Fun fact β€” despite the name, they're not really Dutch at all! The name is actually a twist on "Deutsch" (German), and the dish traces back to a Seattle cafe in the early 1900s that put a spin on the classic German Pfannkuchen. It's an oven-baked pancake β€” the batter puffs up dramatically around the edges while it bakes, leaving a soft, custardy center that tastes a lot like French toast. Crispy, golden edges, tender middle β€” it's a completely different experience from a stack of regular pancakes.

I topped mine with a fresh raspberry sauce, and honestly it was perfect... the only thing missing was a good butter syrup to go with it. That combination is exactly why this needs to be a regular on the menu β€” simple ingredients, big presentation, and it's the kind of dish people remember.
