Thoughts that run through my head as the cigar burns.

Born in the fields of Georgia.
Raised on faith and grit.
Moved to D.C. and made history — the first Black woman in Washington Highlands to own two homes.

One of those homes became a rehearsal space…
where her grandsons’ Quentin Footz Davidson and James Thomas, band would become Rare Essence.

Get Fly With Me feat

The romantic tension between two non-lovers. Friends that are curious about exploring each other. The rapport built over the years came natural, maybe the romance will too?

This song is sets the scene of Atlantic St SE, a very, how can you say it, “busy” street in Southeast, Washington, DC. The intersection at South Capitol Street SE, in particular. I drive by it all the time. It’s rough but has character. Sometimes I see the stories. Not just of the individuals but of the place itself. I know that corner has seen a lot. With this song, I wrote it to set the scene of what goes on there.

Song features .steph

This song pays tribute to my older brother ‘Lil Quentin, who was murdered back in ‘99. He was fearless and that’s what he instilled in me. I reflected on his life and how his tragedy gave mine meaning. To honor him, we shot this music video in the same building he lived in, Carriage Hill 3404.

I also reflected on a previous relationship I was in, where another person’s fear was projected on me. I faced all of that; determined to find the courage I lost.
