💦Water Fluoridation Update🚰

On September 8, 2026, the City Council voted 7–2 to discontinue adding fluoride to the Two Rivers community water supply. That change will take effect on October 31, 2026.

The City has notified the Wisconsin DNR, which oversees public drinking water systems, so it can document the change in water treatment and coordinate monitoring or follow-up actions.

We recognize that some residents and families may be concerned about no longer receiving supplemental fluoride through the municipal water supply. As part of this transition, the City will offer a limited supply of fluoridated toothpaste and fluoride toothpaste tablets to residents who would like an alternative source of topical fluoride.

Beginning November 1, while supplies last:

🦷 Unpaste fluoride toothpaste tablets will be available through the Public Health vending machine at the Fire Department.

🦷 Free fluoridated toothpaste will be available at City Hall during normal business hours. 🪥

City staff are also coordinating with the County and State Health Departments and local schools on the Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile Program for Two Rivers. This program provides free preventive dental services to participating students at school, reducing time away from the classroom.

Dental sealants are a quick, easy, and painless way to help prevent cavities. We’ll share more information as plans for the school program move forward.
--------------------

*NOTE: Fluoride helps prevent cavities. Emerging research has raised concerns about the potential effects of higher fluoride exposure on children’s brain development, including exposure during pregnancy. Questions remain about these effects at the levels recommended for municipal drinking water. Residents with questions about fluoride use during pregnancy or infancy should consult their healthcare or dental provider.
