Aaron Answers: Is there an experience that has changed the way he sees the justice system?

For Aaron, one moment that stayed with him was hearing Senator Shevrin Jones and members of the Black Caucus speak on the chamber floor about why the words “good faith” needed to remain in the statute.

Listen to Aaron share the experience that changed the way he thinks about the justice system, and why moments like this matter.

At the heart of every case are real people whose lives are impacted by the outcome.

When asked what Don's most proud of throughout his years at the firm, his answer was simple: helping people and keeping justice at the forefront of everything he does.

Because the work is about more than the law. It’s about standing up for people, protecting their rights, and making sure every voice matters.

🇺🇸 Constitution Day with the Central Florida Criminal Defense Community

Aaron joined the Orlando chapter of the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (CFACDL) for Constitution Day, connecting with fellow defense attorneys and remembering why we do what we do.

The gathering also honored one of our legislative champions from this past year, Senator Carlos Guillermo Smith, featured a legislative update, and celebrated the retirement of Jim Skuthan, longtime federal Assistant Public Defender.

Thank you to the Central Florida defense community for the conversations and camaraderie. And congratulations to Senator Smith on the recognition, and to Jim on an incredible career and a well-earned retirement!

Innocent until proven guilty. But does that principle still hold in today’s social media age?

A criminal case doesn’t always begin in the courtroom. Sometimes, it begins online.

When police departments or prosecutors’ offices publicly discuss an arrest or pending case, the information shared can shape public perception long before a defendant has had the opportunity to present their side in court. Once a narrative takes hold, it can be hard to undo, even if later facts tell a different story.

The presumption of innocence is a fundamental principle of our justice system. So where should we draw the line between informing the public and protecting a defendant’s right to a fair trial?

Your biggest mistake after being accused of a crime might not happen in the courtroom.

It could happen on your phone.

Posting about your case, sending , discussing the details with friends, or trying to explain yourself directly to law enforcement can potentially create additional problems for your defense.

Even seemingly harmless statements can take on a different meaning when they become part of a criminal investigation. When you’re facing criminal charges, don’t post. Contact Pumphrey Law at (850) 681-7777 to for more information.

One of the biggest mistakes people make after an arrest? Taking a plea deal too quickly.

When you’re facing criminal charges, the first offer isn’t necessarily your best, or only, option. Before you agree to anything, it’s important to understand the evidence, your rights, the potential consequences, and what defenses may be available to you.

A plea is a major decision. Don’t make it before you know what you’re giving up.

If you’ve been arrested or charged with a crime, talk to an experienced criminal defense attorney before making any decisions about your case.

What does “due process” actually
mean in a criminal case?

It means the government can't simply accuse
someone of a crime and punish them without
following the law. Due process provides important protections throughout a criminal case—from the way evidence is gathered to the procedures used in court.

A criminal defense attorney helps protect those
rights by challenging improper procedures,
addressing constitutional violations, and holding the prosecution to its legal obligations.

Being charged with a crime does not mean you're guilty. You have rights, and those rights matter.

Save this post for a quick refresher on due process, and share it with someone who should know their rights.

This post is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. Every case is different.
