neba empowers individuals with disabilities and other barriers to be fully included in their communities through sustainable employment opportunities, while providing businesses with the tools to be more inclusive.
What if we carried the spirit of NDEAM into every month of the year?
This year’s theme, Celebrating Value and Talent, reminds us that people with disabilities bring valuable skills, perspectives, and talents to the workplace. Recognizing that value starts with looking beyond barriers and focusing on what people can do.
As Walt Whitman wrote, “Keep your face always toward the sunshine — and shadows will fall behind you.”
It’s a fitting reminder that when we shift our focus from limitations to possibilities, we open the door to new opportunities and a stronger, more inclusive workforce.
October may be coming to a close, but celebrating value and talent shouldn’t end with NDEAM. Let’s keep recognizing potential, challenging assumptions, and creating opportunities for everyone to succeed.

More convenience, more flexibility, and a new way to manage your ride!
Exciting news from the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA)! A new booking and scheduling system is now in place for 𝗔𝗗𝗔 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁and 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹-𝗔-𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗲 riders.
The 𝗩𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗧 mobile app is rolling out, giving riders a new way to book, view, and cancel trips, check estimated vehicle arrival times, receive reminders and real-time updates, and track eligibility applications — all from their phones!
Best of all, riders can still book trips by phone, and existing van services will remain the same.
Reliable transportation can make a real difference in people's ability to get to work, maintain employment, and stay connected to their communities. It's great to see improvements that give riders more options and greater control over their travel.
Thank you, PVTA, for continuing to improve the travel experience for riders across our region!

Not every disability is visible. 💙
Chronic pain, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, neurological conditions, and many other disabilities can affect a person's daily life without being immediately apparent to others.
During Invisible Disabilities Week, we're raising awareness of the many different ways disability can show up — and reminding everyone that you can't tell what someone is experiencing just by looking at them.
In the workplace and beyond, a little understanding can go a long way. Let's make room for different experiences, recognize the strengths people bring, and remember that not all disabilities are visible.
[Video description: A text-based reel with a teal background and white lettering, accented by red and white curved shapes. The video opens with the words “Invisible Disabilities” and “They’re more common than you think they are.” It then lists examples of invisible disabilities across several slides, including chronic pain and health conditions, learning disabilities, neurological conditions, mental health conditions, sensory disabilities, cognitive and developmental disabilities, and other chronic health conditions. The final slide reads, “Not all disabilities are visible,” and emphasizes understanding, inclusion, and opportunity. The neba logo appears at the end. No people are shown.]
As we wrap up Invisible Disabilities Week let's take time to remember this golden rule - which has been attributed to everyone from Plato to Robin Williams - "Everyone you meet is fighting an invisible battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always."
[Video description: blue back ground with the neba logo in white in the bottom left corner. A white circle comes on the screen with text: Everyone you meet is fighting an invisible battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.]

Meet Maria, a beacon of hope and resilience! Despite living with a chronic health condition, she's dedicated her life to empowering others affected by Lyme Disease. Through her non-profit, the Lyme Disease Resource Center, Inc. of Northampton, MA, she's been a driving force for education and awareness in the Pioneer Valley for over 13 years. Maria's remarkable journey is a testament to the human spirit and a powerful reminder that we all have the capacity to create positive change and a lasting impact.

You can’t always see a disability. But you can recognize someone’s talent, skills, and potential.
As we kick off 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), it’s a good time to think about how we recognize talent in the workplace.
This year’s NDEAM theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” reminds us that people bring valuable skills and perspectives to the workforce, whether or not their disabilities are visible.
Invisible disabilities can include chronic health conditions, learning disabilities, and mental health conditions. When we make assumptions about people based on what we can see, we risk overlooking what they have to offer.
At neba, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to show what they can do. This week, let’s look beyond appearances, recognize individual strengths, and celebrate the value and talent every person can bring to the workplace.
