Hello friends! It's been a while since I've introduced myself, so what better time than now, as I settle into a new space with a new vibe and reinvigorated motivation? Also, shout-out to Evergreen Horizon Portraits for these beautiful photos. They captured me and my space so perfectly. Beware: this post is probably too long, but I love to overshare.
My name is Hailey (she/her), a q***r tattoo artist here in Springfield, Missouri. I was born and raised in Missouri, and I’ve loved creating different forms of art since I was very young. I have been tattooing since May of 2022, and I was licensed that November. I provide custom tattoos in various styles, and I love collaborating with clients to create unique pieces. I love working with bold lines and bright colors, as well as dainty linework and black and grey florals.
About me! I'm a Sagittarius born in 2000. I love witchy things, but I am a lazy witch. Outside of art, my hobbies include: pole fitness, reading, rewatching the same shows and movies from childhood, cozy gaming, and hobby collecting (but not committing). Most of all, I love hanging out with my best friends and partner. I love Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Ghibli movies, to name a few favorites. Fall and spring are my favorite seasons. Halloween is the ultimate holiday in my opinion, with Thanksgiving as a close second. (F*ck Christopher Columbus, I just love to gather with my loved ones and eat delicious food made with love until I can't move.)
A bit about my little family! I am a cat and spider momma, and I currently have two kitty boys, Purrcival and Stratus, along with my spood, Turkey. I have been with my partner Alex for six amazing years, and he is a tattoo artist as well. We met a few years before either of us started tattooing, so we got to start this craft and grow side by side.
Now that the basics are out there, let's get into the meat and potatoes of what tattooing really means to me. I fell in love with tattooing when I got my first one for my eighteenth birthday: three birth flowers representing my younger siblings and I. Going in, I felt it represented something simple and straight to the point. Once the tattoo was finished, I realized it represented so much more. That tattoo altered the way I saw my body. I’d always been critical of it, and suddenly it was adorned with art that made it feel beautiful and special. My body had never felt more my own. That tattoo now represented control over myself and my life, new independence and freedoms, and learning to love a body society taught me to hate. It showed me that I was allowed to break the mold and decide how I wanted to look, act, and be perceived.
Tattoos became a way to tell my life story, a shrine to my loved ones, and a way to show off my interests. They let the world see who I am on the inside. They help me connect with myself, ground myself, be present in mind and body, and feel authentically me. And honestly, they just make me look and feel cool as hell.
Once I got my first tattoo, I knew it was what I wanted to do for a living. I was very hesitant, though. The idea of marking someone permanently terrified me! The imposter syndrome and the “never-good-enough” feelings were real. I wasn't ready to chase it yet. I was focused on my desk job, stuck in a serious art block.
Then one day an apprenticeship opportunity came up. I rushed to put together a portfolio almost overnight with art I'd made over the years, and I took my shot. From there, I hit the ground running and tried not to look back. It was the scariest thing I’d ever done, and it was the best choice I've ever made.
When I started tattooing, I had one ultimate goal. Even if I never made it big, I wanted this to be the one thing I knew I was doing right: making people feel welcome, comfortable, and accepted. I've heard horror stories from artists and clients alike about being taken advantage of, disrespected, and abused. I saw unacceptable behavior firsthand at my first shop. (Thank you to anyone who stayed with me after moving shops. That environment was not the vibe.) This practice deserves respect, and I’m blessed to have a space where I’m confident I can give my clients the experience they deserve.
It's an honor to be trusted with custom body art. I get to help people memorialize their loved ones, cover scars that are painful to look at, and help them adorn their bodies with something that makes them feel good. Sometimes I get to do a silly little tattoo that just makes someone smile. It can be emotional and raw, silly, vulnerable, or painful. It’s genuinely a beautiful thing to be trusted and to connect with so many unique people.
I promise to keep doing my best to provide a comfortable, safe environment and experience for my clients. I will always put my client over ego. Tell me if you want design or size changes, or if you want to move the stencil until it's perfect. Tell me if you need breaks or if you've hit your pain limit. I am here for you and your experience!
To all my clients who have been here since day one: thank you. I wouldn't be here without your trust and willingness to let me learn my craft on you. To my newer clients, thank you for choosing me. And to anyone interested in working with me, thank you for even considering it! I would love to work with you when the time is right.
I'll finish this post with my beliefs, because I'm trying to work with like-minded individuals! And I have no problem chasing the wrong crowd away.
