If I had to identify ONE thing that helps me keep nutritious food on the table, it would probably have to be dump and go meals in the crockpot.
Especially after baby number 2, most days are CONSTANT from the minute I get out of bed until Iām hanging on by a thread to stay awake during the last feed of the night š
If I wait until almost dinner time to cook, just time and busyness can often get the best of me, OR it can be extra tempting to go for a less optimal convenience option due to tiredness.
With dump and go meals, Iām knocking it out early in the day while I still have energy (in less than 30 minutes, no less!).
Then by dinner time, all we have to do is eat š¤š¼
Hereās an easy recipe I tried from Erin Clarke | Well Plated below ā¬ļø
- 1 ¼ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 2 to 3 breasts)
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken stock (see notes if you prefer a thicker chili) (32 ounces)
- 2 (15-ounce) cans reduced-sodium white beans such as white kidney beans, cannellini, or Great Northern beans, rinsed and drained
- 2 (4.5-ounce) cans diced green chiles
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 small yellow onion (or 1/2 large) finely diced
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
- Fresh lime wedges
For serving diced jalapeno, diced avocado, nonfat sour cream or plain Greek yogurt, shredded cheese, crushed tortilla chips

Itās anything but fun, but if you want a nice little finisher but are short on timeā¦donāt sleep on some form of sprints (Assault Bike, Rower, etc.), even if itās only for a few minutes!
Yesterday I had a little time left before working with a client, and this one never fails.
0 - 1:00 | Slow and steady, just getting started.
At the 1:00 mark, 100% effort for 15-20 seconds. Easy movement, with no stopping, for the remaining 40-45 seconds.
At the top of every minute, repeat the sprint.
After a few minutes, you wonāt mind being finished regardless of how much time you have left šš¤š¼
Good luck š«”

For myself, this season of motherhood has been awesome in so many ways. Hard of course too, but such sweet moments Iāve been able to experience the last few months.
Itās also affected my capacity.
My current lifting plan isnāt my all-time favorite right now, but itās absolutely what I need and what works FOR me to help me be consistent.
āJust start going to the gym.ā
I think it can be a little frustrating when people talk about making changes to your fitness and health in a tone that makes it sound like itās easy and no big deal.
Realistically, for many people, making a change to better your (general) health IS simple.
Itās just not easy. Especially when it comes to the consistency thatās required, and on what level of ānewā this category of change would be for you.
I can empathize with anyone in this situation by imagining if I were to take up something like plumbingāI couldnāt know less about the topic and it would be massively overwhelming on my brain.
If you are looking to improve your fitness and health, but donāt know where to start, thereās ONE major piece of advice that I would offer.
Rather than trying to overhaul your entire life and take up lifting three days a week, cooking six days a week, and going from 2k to 10k steps every day, pick ONE thing you can work on.
Make ONE small, simple change. Choose something thatās very achievable for you.
Do it for a month or even more. Then stack it and build ONE more thing from there.
Maybe the first scenario I described is what you picture as your someday āoptimalā situation.
But OPTIMAL is always evolving. Our circumstances change. Capacity ebbs and flows. Motivation is a dicey thing to depend on.
What worked best for you in your 20s or 30s may be a completely different story today.
If you want to better your health, make boring, small changes one at a time. Play the long game and let go of the all or nothing approach that itās all too easy adopt.
Change IS hard, and thatās fine. Most of the things worth investing in are hard to some degree. And how fulfilling to see yourself progress and grow.

Iām not saying we should never eat out or deprive ourselves from having occasional snacks we really enjoy.
All or nothing doesnāt work out well for most people.
I would, however, highly recommend looking at how often those things are happening! Especially if your goals fall into the realm of fat loss or improving your general health.
Usually if we start tracking it and paying attention, these Plan B meals are happening way more often than we would think.
Here are my 5 that I usually keep the ingredients for around the house š¤š¼
- Salsa Verde Chicken
- Egg Roll in a Bowl
- Korean Ground Beef
- Chicken Fajitas
- Ground Beef Southwest Bowls
- A new recent bonus (Turkey Sausage, Veggie, Rice Skillet Meal ā think Silver Dollar City)
There are many āfunctionalā reason to train for life and athleticism.
Hereās one I didnāt know Iād be demonstrating today.
I hope Mr. Miyagi would be proud š„¹

What is your go-to combo for smoothies when you use vanilla protein?
I ran out of my chocolate whey and just had vanilla left.
I often use vanilla for a couple snack recipes I like, but as you can imagine from the title I chose⦠this combo of milk, banana, mixed berries, and vanilla protein distinctly reminds me of both the look and taste of the Pepto-Bismol I had growing up.
Needless to say, not my favorite flavor š So Iād love to hear a better alternative.
(Disclaimer just to cover my bases, no actual pepto-bismol included here šāāļø)
My original plan was to share five of the meals I keep āon retainerā to help set us up for the best success, but Rex remembered he hasnāt had the spotlight in a while.
Weāll hit those meals another time because he also decided to slowly and mindfully.
