A customer drove his travel trailer off a Camping World lot in New York and brought it to his campsite in Chester, Massachusetts—only to discover that the hot water heater did not work.

That raises a serious question about how thoroughly the water heater was tested during the pre-delivery inspection (PDI). Customers should leave the dealership with working systems and a demonstration that those systems operate.

I was called to diagnose the Suburban ST60 water heater, which repeatedly displayed an E5 code. Here’s what I found:

• 12.39 VDC at the power supply, with approximately 12 VDC entering the control board.
• The thermostat powered on.
• Gas inlet pressure measured 11 inches of water column.
• Water was entering the system.
• Approximately 24.24 VDC was measured at the fan output, with approximately 24 VDC still present at the board terminals when the fan was disconnected.
• Repeated attempts resulted in the same E5 code, and the heater would not operate.

My preliminary diagnosis is a suspected control board fan circuit fault and possible fan motor damage. The fan’s specified operating voltage must be confirmed with Suburban before determining whether that output is excessive.

The proposed repair is to confirm the manufacturer’s specifications, replace the control board if its output is incorrect, and replace the fan assembly if testing confirms failure. Afterward, the heater needs a complete operational test to verify fan operation, ignition, hot water delivery, and that the E5 fault is resolved.

This is why an independent RV inspection before taking delivery is so valuable. Ask to see the water heater produce hot water and the other major systems operate before leaving the lot.

🚨 THIS is exactly why I tell people not to assume a brand-new RV is ready to go just because the dealer says it passed inspection. 🚨

I recently worked on a camper that is only 3 weeks old, and found that the shower plumbing was never properly connected by the manufacturer.

That is not a small cosmetic issue. That is basic plumbing that should have been properly installed at the factory and then verified before the camper was ever delivered to the customer.

Just as concerning, this camper went through Camping World and should have received a proper PDI, Pre-Delivery Inspection.

A thorough PDI should include running the water system, operating the shower, checking plumbing connections, inspecting for leaks, testing appliances, electrical systems, safety equipment, and verifying that the camper is actually ready for use.

If the shower had been properly tested, this issue should have been discovered before the customer took delivery.

What makes this situation even more frustrating is that this customer is currently living in this camper while her house is being repaired after a fire. This is not simply a weekend camping inconvenience. Right now, this RV is her home.

A customer purchasing a brand-new camper should not have to discover problems like this only weeks after delivery.

This is why I strongly recommend hiring an independent Certified RV Inspector before accepting a new or used RV.

The manufacturer builds the camper.
The dealership sells the camper.
But an independent inspector works for YOU.

A certified inspector can go through the RV carefully and verify:

✅ Electrical and 12-volt systems
✅ Appliances
✅ Roof and sealants
✅ Slides and mechanisms
✅ Heating and air conditioning
✅ Safety equipment
✅ Interior and exterior components

Unfortunately, “brand new” does not necessarily mean properly built, properly tested, or properly inspected.

An independent RV inspection may cost you some money upfront, but it can uncover problems before you sign the paperwork and take possession, instead of after you are already dealing with repairs, warranty claims, and downtime.

If you’re purchasing an RV, especially a brand-new one, protect yourself.

Get an independent Certified RV Inspector involved before delivery.

Customer called and said that her 7 way cord was smoking was smoking, and all started in the battery box which he didn’t realize there was wires in there. Unfortunately, I had to recommend her to a dealer to get that fixed cause the wires went all the way under the front of her fifth wheel

Professional Notice Regarding Fogatti

After careful consideration, I have decided that Beaulieu Mobile RV Repairs LLC will no longer purchase, install, or recommend Fogatti products.

This decision is based solely on my own professional experience working with their products and warranty process.

As an independent RV technician, I expect manufacturers to provide reliable products, timely technical support, fair warranty practices, and respect for both their customers and the technicians servicing their equipment. Unfortunately, my experience with Fogatti has not met those expectations.

Because of this experience, I can no longer confidently recommend Fogatti products to my customers. Going forward, I will be recommending alternative manufacturers that I believe provide better product reliability, technical support, and overall customer service.
