πΈοΈ Dyslexia-Friendly Reading Tip: Make reading a treat, not a trick! Let your child choose a fun Halloween story and take turns reading aloud. Reading together can help build confidence, encourage a love of books, and take the pressure off independent reading. ππ§‘
No BOO(K) Club membership requiredβjust a good story and a little imagination!
Happy Halloween from all of us at Springfield Center for Dyslexia and Learning! π€

π¦π Halloween is full of opportunities to sneak in a little literacy funβwithout making it feel like homework! π
π» **Try a Halloween Word Hunt!**
Look for spooky words around your home, in Halloween decorations, or in your favorite seasonal books.
Then have some fun breaking them into sounds!
π·οΈ **Bat:** /b/ /Δ/ /t/ β 3 sounds
π **Pumpkin:** 2 syllables β pump-kin
πββ¬ **Cat:** Change the /c/ sound to /b/ and you've got BAT!
These playful activities help children practice phonological awareness, an important foundational skill for reading.
𧑠A little seasonal fun can go a long way toward building reading confidence!

π»π It's time for some SPOOKY Dyslexia Trivia!
π True or False: Children with dyslexia can be great storytellers, even if reading and spelling are challenging.
Answer: TRUE! β
Dyslexia affects reading and spelling skills, but it doesn't limit a child's imagination, creativity, or ability to tell a fantastic story!
In fact, storytelling doesn't always have to involve reading or writing. Encourage your child to make up a spooky story, act it out, or record themselves telling it! πΈοΈ
π‘ Halloween Challenge: Ask your child to create a silly or spooky story using these three words: pumpkin, flashlight, and monster!
We'd love to hear what they come up with! π
