Capturing horses with storms is always a dream scenario. On June 22 near Sterling, CO, Storm Chaser Tim Baca and I stumbled across a herd of rare fjord horses on the dusty High Plains backroads. They were so curious, and posed beautifully for us, as this maturing supercell provided the perfect dramatic backdrop!

We still have a few seats left for 2027 with Extreme Photo Workshops! Join us to photograph incredible moments like this!

2026 was a slower severe weather season compared to the tornado and sculpted supercell fests of 2024 and 2025. It pushed me as a storm photographer to create compelling photos since the storms weren't quite living up to my expectations.

Thankfully, the latter part of the season brought some of our best chase days in Colorado, and I was thrilled to finally capture a gorgeous High Plains supercell.

On this particular day in June, Storm Chaser Tim Baca and l drove to Limon, CO, where we watched one of the prettiest storms of our 2026 season unfold. This supercell tried so hard to tornado in its early moments, but just couldn't quite get it done.

Afterward, we had an overnight drive back to New Mexico because we both worked the next morning. We pulled into the driveway at 4 a.m., just in time to get a couple hours of sleep. And we'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Photographing a haboob birthed by a supercell is pure adrenaline. Outflow slams into the earth and drags the landscape up with it. It’s the brutal exhale of a storm, and an unrelenting wall of chaos eating miles in minutes. You either stay ahead of it or disappear into it.

Captured near Garden City, Texas in May 2025.

Take me back to Oklahoma where the skies explode with thunder and are painted in the cerulean hues of hail glow. This was such a fun chase with Storm Chaser Tim Baca back in June 2025. Here's hoping 2026 is just as prolific!

On 4/21/22 this LP supercell commanded the Kansas horizon as the incandescent colors of sunset spilled across its sculpted structure. Spring is here, and soon the dramatic atmosphere will fill my lens again!

My top 10 storm photos of 2025! I'll admit, it took me months to drum up the motivation to edit images from last year. I knew there were a few amazing shots, but I wasn't excited about my holistic portfolio since I missed all the stunning tornadoes in the High Plains. But then I started to edit and realized 2025 was actually one of my best seasons as a storm photographer.

I witnessed out-of-this-world structured supercells, big dusty tornadoes, two finger of God moments, storms with ethereal sunset light, a haboob in central Texas, massive monsoon lightning, and more!

Imposter syndrome and the comparison game are vicious. I'm so proud of what I accomplished in 2025 without chasing all the photogenic outbreaks!

Never underestimate what you can do and never stop chasing! 🌪️📸
