It's one of the best times of the year - October is National Squirrel Awareness Month!!! 🐿️ 🎉 Right now, we're at the tail end (pun intended) of the second squirrel "baby" season. This is the perfect time to celebrate and the important role they play in our ecosystems.

Thank you to The Dodo for sharing the story of the magnificent marmots we released back to the wild this week! This has been an unforgettable adventure, and we're so grateful for all the love and support sent our way.

The Bay Area’s unexpected marmot visitors are finally back where they belong 🥹💚

Earlier this month, two marmots were found separately in San Francisco and Antioch, roughly 200 miles from their alpine habitat. Rescuers believe the animals may have accidentally hitched rides underneath vehicles returning from Burning Man through the Tahoe/Reno area.

After 18 days of care at Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue, both marmots were healthy enough to head home. Rescuers released them near Lake Tahoe at an elevation of about 7,800 feet. And the timing couldn’t have been more important: They’re back in the mountains just as marmots begin preparing to hibernate for winter.

Marmot mania! Here's an absolutely mind-boggling sequence of photos from the release by the amazing wildlife photographer Michael Maloney (https://buff.ly/GZs9J6Y)! Thank you for being there to capture these moments, Michael!!! (We totally think these pics should win an award!)
