When it comes to breast cancer, understanding your risk can make all the difference. ๐ฉท ๐งฌ
After losing her stepsister to breast cancer and learning that a relative had tested positive for a BRCA2 gene mutation, Tracey Zimmerman decided to take part in GenoWell, our noโcost genetic screening community health research program.
The results gave her answers and the opportunity to take a more proactive approach to her health while helping her daughters better understand their own potential risks.
"As a mother to two daughters, I wanted to be a good example to them."
Now, Tracey is encouraging others to learn from their family history and take advantage of opportunities to better understand their health.

Not every bad day is burnout. But when kids start saying these types of things, they may be a sign that something bigger is going on.
๐ฉโIโm a failure.โ
When one loss, mistake, or tough game starts to define their entire self-worth, sports may be shifting from something they do to who they believe they are, which can lead to more significant issues down the road.
๐ฉโEveryoneโs counting on me.โ
Student athletes often feel pressure from coaches, teammates, parents, teachers, and themselves. Carrying those expectations all the time can become overwhelming for anybody, but especially for children.
๐ฉโThis sport is all I have.โ
When being an athlete becomes their entire identity instead of just one part of who they are, this can be a major warning sign that itโs time to reassess.
๐ฉโI never get a break.โ
Between practices, games, training, schoolwork, and other commitments, some athletes are simply stretched too thin. Burnout can happen when there are too many demands and not enough recovery time.
๐ฉโI used to love this.โ
When the focus has become all about outcomes, performance, or pressure instead of enjoyment and growth, it may be time to step back and reassess.
If you recognize these signs in your child, start with a conversation. Ask how theyโre feeling, listen without judgment, and remind them that theyโre valued for much more than their performance. If concerns persist, talk with their healthcare provider together to help determine what support may be needed.
