⚾ YOUR KID PLAYS AAA BASEBALL… BUT DOES THAT MAKE HIM A AAA PLAYER? 🤔

This might be something some parents don’t want to hear, but it’s an important conversation when it comes to youth baseball development.

At Prospect Performance Baseball, we believe in developing the PLAYER, not just chasing the classification next to the team name.

Here’s something every baseball parent should understand:

AA, AAA, and Majors are TEAM classifications. They don’t automatically define the individual skill level of every player on that roster.

A player can compete on a AAA team but still have AA-level defensive skills. Another player might play AA but have a Majors-level arm or bat.

And that’s OK! Development isn’t always equal across every part of the game.

Here’s how we generally look at these levels from a coaching and player development perspective. These aren’t official universal standards, and classifications can vary by age and organization.

🟡 AA — BUILDING THE FOUNDATION

At this level, players are developing the fundamentals and learning how to execute them consistently.

⚾ Catching and throwing are improving, but routine plays aren’t always automatic.

⚾ Hitters are working on making consistent contact.

⚾ Pitchers are learning to throw strikes before worrying about hitting specific locations.

⚾ Baserunning awareness, defensive positioning, and understanding game situations are still developing.

The focus: Fundamentals, confidence, and consistency.

⚫ AAA — CONSISTENCY & EX*****ON

This is where players should begin turning their skills into reliable performance.

⚾ Routine defensive plays should become routine outs.

⚾ Hitters start understanding situations, counts, and developing an approach at the plate.

⚾ Pitchers begin working on command, changing speeds, and attacking the strike zone with purpose.

⚾ Catchers become more consistent at blocking, receiving, and controlling the running game.

⚾ Baserunners start reading pitchers, taking better leads, and recognizing opportunities.

The focus: Executing the fundamentals consistently under game pressure.

🏆 MAJORS — SKILL MEETS BASEBALL IQ

At this level, physical ability is important, but what really separates players is how they THINK and RESPOND during the game.

⚾ Defenders anticipate where the ball is going and know their next play before it happens.

⚾ Hitters understand the count, situation, pitcher tendencies, and what they’re trying to accomplish.

⚾ Pitchers command multiple pitches, change speeds, hold runners, and understand sequencing.

⚾ Catchers manage the game, communicate, and help control the defense.

⚾ Players make adjustments without needing a coach to tell them every move.

The focus: High-level ex*****on, anticipation, and baseball intelligence.

💥 HERE’S WHAT WE REALLY WANT PARENTS TO UNDERSTAND.

Your player might be:

* AAA hitter
* AA defender
* Majors throwing arm
* AAA baserunner
* AA baseball IQ

And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Our job as coaches is to identify those gaps and help develop a more COMPLETE ballplayer.

At Prospect, we talk about BASEBALL IQ constantly because we believe it’s one of the biggest separators as players get older.

You can have the strongest arm on the field, but if you don’t know where to throw the baseball, that arm doesn’t help your team nearly as much as it could.

You can be the fastest kid on the field, but if you don’t understand baserunning situations, that speed can turn into unnecessary outs.

And you can hit the ball a mile, but understanding WHEN and HOW to approach an at-bat is what helps make you a complete hitter.

The name on the tournament bracket doesn’t develop your kid. The work does.

So instead of always asking:

❌ “Why isn’t my kid playing AAA or Majors?”

Start asking:

✅ “What does my player need to improve to consistently compete at that level?”

That’s a much more productive conversation.

👇 COACHES & PARENTS — LET’S HEAR IT!

What do YOU believe is the biggest difference between an AA, AAA, and Majors player?

Is it physical ability, consistency, baseball IQ, or something else?

World Series squares update for our 12U families! Congrats to the game 1-4 winners! Let’s hope the Rays keep it going! 💪🏻💯 Message us to claim!

11U held it down this past weekend over at Boombah Sports Complex finishing as the runner up in a stacked Perfect Game USA tournament. As the 1 seed going into Sunday - They lost only 1 game the whole weekend barely taking home the championship by 1 run. We are proud of this group and the continued hard work they put in week after week. Big shoutout to Orlando on 11U for walking away as the tournament MVP as well! PROSPECT
