Oberammergau. It might be a mouthful, but it’s also a tradition nearly 400 years in the making.
This German village is home to the Passion Play, performed by local residents once every 10 years. The tradition began in 1633, after villagers made a promise that if their village was spared from the plague, they’d perform the story of Jesus’ resurrection every 10 years. And that promise continues to this day.
Collette has been bringing travelers to this remarkable event for decades. And when you travel with us, the experience goes beyond the performance, with time to get to know Oberammergau and the residents who keep its centuries-old tradition alive.
