Custom hand-painted mural by Kelly O’Neal

This all started back in the plan review phase. The clients wanted to honor the tree that once stood on their lot, so we asked our friend Kelly to bring that story to life through a mural - creating a meaningful focal point for this powder bath.

Because the details with soul are what make a house a home.

Mirror to come :)

What did we miss?

Wallpaper doesn’t always have to be busy, bold, or loud to make an impact. Sometimes the best wallpaper is the kind you almost don’t notice at first.

A subtle pattern or beautiful texture can add depth, warmth, and just enough intrigue to make a room feel layered without demanding all of the attention.

Twenty-plus years in interior design has taught me a lot about design, but maybe even more about business, people, and knowing what you should stop trying to do yourself. Hire the finance person. Hire the logistics person. Build real relationships with other designers. Take very good care of the trades, artisans, and project managers who help bring your ideas to life. Your team matters. Your community matters. And the relationships you build along the way may end up being one of the most valuable things you have. Also, please don’t keep your receipts in a shoebox 😬

One of my biggest design pet peeves? When every room is beautiful, but the spaces in between feel completely forgotten.

Hallways, vestibules, little pass-throughs... they may not be where you spend the most time, but they do so much to shape how a home feels.

This space was perfectly fine before. But “perfectly fine” isn’t really the goal.

Adding this soft, textile-like wallpaper gave it warmth, texture, and a sense of intention. Now instead of simply getting you from one room to the next, it actually sets the stage for where you’re going.

We’ve been keeping this one under wraps, but with fall temperatures officially here, it felt wrong not to share a little taste.

This project is warm, layered, moody, and very much an autumn.

For now, enjoy the glimpse. Home tour coming soon!

Somewhere in the middle of Dallas Design Week last week, William and I finally found a few minutes to sit down and kick our feet up... and apparently that was his cue to start up another rapid-fire Q&A.

I still don’t know where he came up with all of these, but I definitely had answers. :)

Which one do you agree with most? And which one do you completely disagree with? Tell me in the comments, or send this to the friend you know would have opinions of their own.
