I’m a little late posting this and I apologize. We want to recognize District Commissioner Harmon Horton and all the years of service he provided to the community while serving in numerous positions on the department. He was the assistant chief, EMT, and later commissioner. Finally serving as chairman of the Midvale Fire Protection District. Recently, Harmon decided to retire. People like him leave a large empty space when they move on. He taught me a lot over the years. What it means to be a part of something great. We all appreciate everything you have done over the years to make sure the department had what it needed to do the job. Thanks for always being there to pick the phone up when I had some hare brained idea or need that couldn’t wait for the next meeting to bring up. You WILL be missed!
Thankfully, Karson Craig agreed to step in and fill this position! It’s great to have his many years of experience and knowledge on the board!
MFPD is, unfortunately, going to have to EXTEND the BURN BAN until we get some rain. There have been other "controlled" burns in the area, that have gotten away due to dry grasses and wind. As of now, the ban will carry on past tomorrows usual open burning date. We will lift the ban just as soon as we can and its safe. Thanks for understanding and patients.

Fire on top of Midvale Hill this afternoon. Reportedly started by someone dragging safety chains. This was at the entrance to Austin and Jenny Bunkers place on the Thousand Springs Ranch. Cambridge and Weiser Fire depts responded for mutual aid along with the RFPA. Our local USFS crews also assisted with a heavy brush engine along with a FS contractor. Just goes to show you how fast a grass fire can move. Even in light fuels, with a good wind to push it. Thanks to everyone the helped out!
Big thanks to Cambridge and Indian Valley FD’s for the assist on a grass fire at the intersection of Farm to Market and Hog Creek Rd yesterday! Thankfully it was slow moving and we were able to get it stopped pretty quick with the help of three Cambridge trucks, our engines 905, 906, and 907 with tankers 904 and 908. We were able to turn around IVFD after getting the fire knocked down but sure glad to know they were on the way if things went bad.
