We don't believe parents need to be experts; we believe they can be heroes. LexiaHeroes is the right program with the right support that parents need.

We can now offer you LexiaHeroes, the same program we have used with small groups of parents to successfully help their children read, even when they have dyslexia themselves. We know how discouraging it can be to find the right reading instruction to help your child. We can now offer you LexiaHeroes, the same comprehensive, evidence-based reading program we have successfully used for years

LexiaHeroes is the same program we have used with small groups of parents to successfully help their children, even when they have dyslexia themselves. LexiaHeroes is designed to guide you, step-by-step, through an explicit, sequential series of recorded lessons—and a support team to help you be successful. We don't believe parents need to be experts to help their children read; we believe they can be heroes. There are many programs that claim to work for dyslexia, perhaps even those used by your school. However, the National Institutes of Child Health and Development (NICHD) recommends a very specific type of remediation for dyslexia called Orton-Gillingham. Orton-Gillingham tutoring follows a very specific sequence and scope–grounded in a multi-sensory method and repetition–that creates changes in the brain that make it more receptive to the language processing required for reading. It is most effective one-on-one and takes 18 months to three years to complete. There is no substitution for this scientifically based and proven method. After years of exploring alternative forms of Orton-Gillingham instruction, Barton Reading and Spelling is our program of choice because:
• Broader in scope and more thorough than other well-known Orton-Gillingham systems.
• Specifically and explicitly addresses influence of Greek and Latin prefixes and root words. In working with bright young adults who are often gifted in the sciences, understanding the construction and meaning of these words is essential to success.
• Integrated multi-sensory approach.
• Concurrently teaches reading, grammar and spelling (highly interrelated and reinforcing skills).
• Barton Reading and Spelling program is the only effective remediation program accessible to parents who wish to tutor their own children.

Some of these lessons come from parents who are learning alongside their children. Others have come from years of working with dyslexic learners and seeing what helps them learn, grow, and build confidence.

And, for some of us, they’ve also come from our own experiences with learning differences.

What’s something you’ve learned along the way?

Books can be a great way to learn, connect, and see yourself reflected in a story. Audiobooks can give learners access to stories, information, and ideas while they’re still developing independent reading skills.

For this month’s resource recommendation, we pulled together a few audiobooks we love for grown-ups, kids, and teens.

Some offer insight into dyslexia and learning differences. Others simply feature characters, stories, and adventures we think are worth spending time with.

What book should we add to our reading list?

Dyslexia involves differences in how the brain processes language, and those differences can influence how a person approaches the world in ways that are interesting, individual, and worth celebrating.

That doesn't mean every dyslexic person thinks the same way or has the same strengths. It means there can be more to dyslexic thinking than the challenges we usually hear about.

And maybe “interesting” is a little more reachable for us mere mortals.

What’s something about the way someone in your life thinks, creates, or solves problems that makes you think, “That’s pretty cool”?

And if you’re wondering what dyslexia might look like for your own learner, we’re always happy to talk through questions and help you figure out where to start.

There’s so much to learn when we make room for a learner’s perspective.

Sometimes they can tell us what feels hard. Sometimes they can tell us what helps. And sometimes they can show us strengths we might have missed.

A learner’s experience with dyslexia is their own.
Our voice matters.

These stories aren't meant to suggest that dyslexia guarantees success.

Dyslexia is one part of a person's story.

Every person also has their own strengths, interests, personality, experiences, goals, and dreams.

The people in these slides are well-known. But most dyslexic people aren't.

They're our children.
Our students.
Our friends.
Our coworkers.
Our family.

And every one of them has a story worth knowing.
Many strengths. Many stories. One beautiful complexity.

Sometimes we talk about dyslexia so much that we forget to talk about the person.

The kid who can build anything.
The teenager who can make everyone laugh.
The artist who sees things differently.
The reader who loves space.
The learner who keeps trying even when learning feels exhausting.

And then there are the adults who grew up wondering why something that seemed so easy for everyone else could feel so hard for them.

There isn't one set of strengths that belongs to every dyslexic person. There isn't one kind of dyslexic mind, one path, or one story.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, and we’re looking forward to spending the month learning, listening, and sharing the many different stories that come with dyslexia.

We’ll be talking about strengths, experiences, perspectives, and the things we wish more people knew. We’ll also be sharing helpful information, stories, and resources along the way.

Whether dyslexia is part of your family’s story, your learner’s story, your work, or something you’re simply curious to understand better, come along with us!

Who are you honoring this month?

A dyslexia assessment can provide important answers—but families often need more than answers.

They need to understand what those answers mean, what support will help, and what steps to take next.

At LexiaHeroes, we support learners and families through assessment, instruction, resources, and individualized solutions designed around the learner.

Because every learner’s path is different—and the right support should be too.

Not sure where to begin? We’re here to help.

Every learner’s journey looks different—and supporting that journey takes a team.

At LexiaAbility, each person brings a unique perspective, skill set, and passion for helping learners grow. Whether we’re guiding families through questions, providing instruction, creating resources, or supporting the work behind the scenes, our shared goal remains the same:

Helping learners build skills, confidence, and a path forward.
We look forward to introducing you to each member of our team in the coming months.

A new school year brings new routines, new expectations, and new opportunities for growth.
But progress does not look the same for every learner.

When we understand where a learner is and what they need next, we can provide the instruction, strategies, and support that help them build skills, confidence, and independence.

Every learner’s path looks different. If you have questions about what support could look like, we’re here to help.
