George Melcher Elementary is a neighborhood school in the Kansas City Public Schools. Our school is located at 3958 Chelsea, in Kansas City, Missouri.
It is named after George Melcher, who was superintendent from 1928 to 1940. George Melcher Elementary opened its doors in 1962. In 1976, the school was changed from a K-7 to a school with kindergarten, fifth and sixth grades. In 1988, it became a foreign language magnet offering Spanish, French and German to fourth- and fifth-graders. Currently our school is a K-6, with two exceptional education classrooms, five support classrooms, and three auxiliary staff members.

Principal Paul became a student in Mr. Mercer's Math Class! The kids were impressed... she said she was relieved to get the right answer.

Melcher Families,
We are getting ready to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in a BIG way! 🎉🌎
We’re sending our Hispanic Heritage Month Spirit Week flyer out early so everyone has plenty of time to get ready and join in the fun. Take a look at the flyer and start planning those outfits!
We can’t wait to celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, history, and contributions of the Hispanic and Latino communities with our Melcher students and families! ❤️

🎻 Orchestra in action at Melcher! I stopped by Mr. DeClue’s strings class today as students learned about clefs and the musical staff. Mr. DeClue even tried to put the principal on the spot with a music question—and I knew the answer! 😂🎶

🌟 Excellent math instruction in action in Mrs. Endencio’s 5th-grade classroom! Students used manipulatives, whiteboards, computers, charts, and their choice of strategies to tackle multi-digit division. Every student was engaged and on task! 🧮💚💛
