If you’ve stopped by Venture House Bronx, there’s a good chance Liz has been one of the people welcoming you in. One of her favorite parts of the workday is sitting at the reception desk, greeting everyone who walks through the door!

Connection has played an important role in Liz’s own journey too. She shares how Venture House has helped her with socializing, education, employment and self-esteem and how the way she interacts with her family and friends has changed along the way.
Today, Liz hopes to use her own experiences to “be a role model for those who can’t advocate for themselves."

“Our Movement, Our Moment.”
Venture House was proud to be in Albany for the Alliance for Rights and Recovery’s 44th Annual Conference, joining peers, advocates, providers and leaders from across New York.

For us, the conversations around lived experience, peer support, advocacy, and community-based recovery connect directly to what happens in our Clubhouses every day, members building relationships, finding purpose, returning to work and education and having a voice in their own recovery.

We came back with new connections, new ideas and a lot to carry forward into our work.

What a day in the Boogie Down Bronx! Thank you all so much for your support in making yesterday’s Venture House Bronx Ribbon Cutting & Art Showcase such a wonderful success! A special thank you to our community partners, members, Board, and staff for helping make this milestone so memorable. We are thrilled to be growing our community and bringing even more fellowship, purpose, and opportunity to the Boogie Down Bronx!

"It was a tremendously successful event! We were honored to welcome Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson; Assemblymember Yudelka Tapia, District 86; Assemblymember George Alvarez, District 78; Dr. Alister F. Martin, Commissioner, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; and Fidel Malena, Bronx Regional Representative, Office of Governor Kathy Hochul, along with the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, scores of Venture House members, community partners, Board members, and staff from across the boroughs.

What stood out was the outpouring of support for Venture House Bronx and the Clubhouse Model itself.

But the most engaging part of it all, was the extraordinary member artwork on display throughout the clubhouse! Several pieces were sold at the event! "

-Venture House, CEO, Juliet Douglas

On World Su***de Prevention Day, we honor the strength it takes to survive, heal and keep choosing life.

Michael Finley, a Venture House member, reflects on some of the darkest periods of his life from isolation and hospitalization to surviving su***de attempts and how finding community helped him rebuild his life.

“Venture House is giving me my life back. It’s giving me my housing and it’s giving me the best family I could ask for.”

Sometimes hope begins with something simple-being seen, being needed and knowing you do not have to carry everything alone.
Today, we remember that connection can be life-changing. Community can be healing. And every life matters!

Venture House Brooklyn and the Bronx came out in full force for Summer Streets again this year! Thank you to our DOT partners for helping us connect with the community and sharing important mental health resources.

“I had a good time. I feel so appreciated by the band members. I encourage everyone to learn an instrument and join a band. It is very enlightening and fulfilling playing the drums.” — Curtis
