And if you’re thinking about custom jewelry for Christmas, now is the time to get started. Send me a DM to talk details. 🎄

Why I brought Winston back…

A couple of years ago, I wrote and illustrated a little children’s book called Winston in Wyoming.

I’ve always loved Winston and his adventurous spirit, but over time, I changed. My artwork changed. My creative life grew in new directions. And the landscapes that inspire me most became the woods, wildflowers, animals, and quiet corners of the Southeastern United States.

I kept thinking about Winston—and eventually realized I didn’t simply want to reprint his story. I wanted to tell it again from where I am now.

So I rewrote and re-illustrated the book, giving Winston a new world to explore.

Winston in Wyoming has become Winston in the Wild. 🌿

It still has the heart of the original story, but this version feels much more like the artist, storyteller, and mother I am today.

Have you ever returned to something you created years ago and seen it completely differently? I’d love to hear.

(PS stay tuned for more info including release date)

Originally I designed this ring to hold a different gemstone, but this pearl just looked so sweet that I changed my mind.

What do you think? Are you a pearl girl?

Jewelry artist Kate Furman gathers her materials the way most of us collect memories: seed pods, bark, bone, and stone worn smooth by storms and whitewater. Working from her studio in Greenville, South Carolina, she sets each found piece into fine jewelry that carries the mark of exactly where it was found, a field journal you can wear.

Furman earned her MFA in Jewelry + Metalsmithing from Rhode Island School of Design and her BFA in Jewelry and Metalworking from the University of Georgia.

Her trunk show continues in The Bascom Shop today and tomorrow, September 11–12, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., alongside the Dazzling Dahlia Festival. Her collection is available for purchase both days.
