Why am I receiving a tax bill when my lender pays my taxes?
Pursuant to 35 ILCS 200/20-5, the Treasurer’s Office is required to mail a property tax bill to all taxpayers, regardless of whether the taxes are paid through an escrow account by a mortgage company or financial institution.
Receiving a copy of the tax bill allows taxpayers to review their property information for accuracy, verify that all applicable exemptions have been applied, and remain informed of the total amount of property taxes assessed and paid for the year.
Taxpayers are encouraged to contact their mortgage company or financial institution directly to confirm whether their property taxes are being paid through an escrow account. Failure to receive a bill does not relieve the taxpayer of the responsibility for payment and verification of tax status.
2025 Payable 2026 Real Estate Property Tax Bills have been mailed!
We will be accepting payments starting May 18, 2026.
You can pay in our office with a check, cash, credit/debit card, at a participating financial institution, by mail, or online.
Please call 217-424-1426 with any questions!
