The Good Samaritan Inn

5 Days of Joy is right around the corner!

As we prepare for our annual 5 Days of Joy, we’re asking our community to help us spread a little extra warmth, comfort, and kindness to our neighbors this holiday season.

This year, our goal is to collect 225 of each essential item to help provide our neighbors with everyday necessities that can make a meaningful difference in their lives.

We’re asking for donations of:

* Winter hats
* Gloves
* Toothbrushes- fulfilled
* Toothpaste
* Shampoo
* Body wash
* Socks
* Dish soap
* Laundry detergent

For many of us, these are everyday items we may not think twice about purchasing. But for our neighbors experiencing financial hardship, access to these basic necessities can make a world of difference.

Donations can be dropped off Monday- Friday from 7a-11a at 920 N Union St, Decatur.
We would like to have all items collected by Monday, November 30th.
Thank you for helping care for our community.

Come see us at Decatur Family YMCA’s Trunk or Treat TONIGHT, Thursday October 29th from 5pm-6:30pm.

A big thank-you to Golden K Kiwanis Club of Decatur for serving with us at Good Sam! We’re grateful you spent part of your day helping us keep our neighbors fed and making everyone feel welcome at our tables.

Our volunteers make this work possible, and there’s always room for a few more helping hands. Interested in volunteering on your own or with a group? Call 217.429.1455 and ask for Denise!

The power may be out, but our mission continues!

Yesterday, we received notice from Ameren that a scheduled power outage would impact Good Samaritan Inn during our regular lunch service today.

While this meant making some last-minute changes, we knew we needed to find a way to continue serving our neighbors safely.

Instead of our traditional meal service, we’re providing sack lunches today to ensure our community still has access to a meal.

Thanks to our incredible volunteers, more than 200 sack lunches have been packed and prepared for our neighbors!

We’re especially grateful to the volunteers who stepped up and helped us make this adjustment on such short notice. Their willingness to adapt and lend a hand is just one example of what makes our community so special.

Today’s meal service may look a little different, but our commitment to nourishing our neighbors remains the same.

Thank you to everyone who helps make that possible!

Even laundry plays a role in nourishing our neighbors!

Every day, our staff and volunteers go through countless aprons while preparing and serving meals to our community. With so many helping hands in our kitchen, the laundry piles up quickly!

Having on-site laundry facilities helps us keep clean aprons ready, maintain food safety, and keep our kitchen running smoothly.

It may seem like a small detail, but it's one of the many behind-the-scenes essentials that keep our mission moving forward.

Because nourishing our neighbors takes more than just food!
