K9 Koda

🎃🐾 HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM K9 KODA! 🐾🎃

It’s that time of year again! Costumes, candy, decorations, and lots of little ghosts and goblins running around!

K9 Koda wants everyone to have a fun night, but he’s also reminding everyone to stay safe while trick-or-treating!

🚨 HALLOWEEN SAFETY REMINDERS:

👻 Be Visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing and consider carrying a flashlight or glow stick so drivers can see you.

🎃 Stay on Sidewalks: Use sidewalks whenever possible and cross streets at designated crosswalks. Look both ways before crossing!

🍬 Inspect Your Candy: Parents should check their children’s candy before they dig in. Avoid anything with damaged, opened, or suspicious packaging.

🚗 Watch for Traffic: Drivers, slow down and stay alert! Kids can be unpredictable and may dart into the roadway.

🧒 Stick Together: Younger children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult. Older kids should travel in groups and have a plan for the evening.

🏠 Be Respectful: Only visit homes with their lights on, use designated walkways, and respect people’s property.

🐶 Keep Pets Safe: Costumes, crowds, and unfamiliar visitors can be stressful for pets. Keep them secure and make sure they have proper identification.

Most importantly, have fun, make memories, and look out for one another!

From K9 Koda and Officer Elwell, have a safe and HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 🎃🐾🚔

This past weekend, K9 Koda and Officer Elwell had the opportunity to visit St. Mark’s to demonstrate Koda’s abilities and share a little more about what he does! We had a great time and loved getting to meet and spend time with everyone.

St. Mark’s also recently made a generous donation to the K9 Koda Fund, helping ensure Koda can continue serving our community and stay prepared for the job!

Thank you, St. Mark’s, for your generosity and for supporting K9 Koda and our community! 🐾

Community partners are working together to enhance safety at the annual Callithumpian Parade in Decatur on Monday, October 26, 2026. The City of Decatur, Decatur Chamber of Commerce, North Adams Community Schools and Adams Health have joined forces to implement additional safety measures designed to help keep parade attendees, especially children, safe while preserving the fun and excitement of this longstanding community tradition.

New this year, orange and blue traffic cones will be placed every 20 feet along both sides of the parade route to create a visible barrier between spectators and parade participants. Attendees are asked to remain behind the cones and keep the parade route clear throughout the event.

The additional precautions are especially important for children who may be excited to collect candy during the parade. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to remind children to remain behind the cones when retrieving candy and to avoid entering the parade route. Those participating in the parade are also asked to distribute candy only to spectators behind the cones to help prevent children and others from stepping into the path of moving parade entries.

In addition, volunteers representing the partner organizations will wear bright orange reflective safety vests to help monitor crowd safety, provide reminders about the new safety measures, and assist attendees as needed throughout the parade.

Through this collaborative effort, the partners hope to make the Callithumpian Parade a safe, fun and enjoyable event for everyone. Attendees are encouraged to follow the posted safety measures, listen to volunteers, and help keep the parade route clear.
