What an unforgettable learning adventure! Our 7th grade Bulldogs recently returned from their overnight trip to Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia, where they embodied the IB Learner Profile attributes as curious Inquirers, Risk-Takers, and Open-Minded thinkers.

Throughout the trip, our students engaged in hands-on learning and vibrant community-building:

🌊 Deepening their environmental knowledge through interactive watershed studies

🛶 Building confidence and teamwork during canoeing class out on the water

🦅 Channeling their inner scientists during hands-on ornithology lessons

🏹 Learning about history and culture while playing interactive games in Indigenous games class

🏠 Bonding with classmates during cabin time and enjoying fun visits to the canteen

Experiences where students feel seen, supported, and successful are made possible by an incredible team. We extend our sincere gratitude to our wonderful parent chaperones and dedicated 7th grade teachers who gave their time and energy to support our students. An extra special shout-out goes to assistant principal Julie McFaddin for her exceptional leadership in organizing and leading this trip!

Huge congratulations to our Beacon Hill Boys’ Soccer team! They are officially your Atlanta Middle School Soccer League Champions!

Our Bulldogs locked in and secured the title last night in an absolute thriller, sealing the victory in a dramatic penalty kick shootout capped off by a massive game-winning save! The future of Decatur Soccer is bright, and these boys just keep building on that championship culture.

Opening Night! We are excited to see our theater Bulldogs take flight!

Huge shoutout to our awesome 6th Grade I&S teacher, Ms. Rebeka Blankenship, for taking the stage at the Georgia Social Studies Conference (GCSS) in Athens! 🗺️✨ Ms. Blankenship spent time showing social studies teachers from across Georgia how hands-on mapping projects can bring history to life! Learning strategies attendees got to practice:

🎨 Coloring Colonization
📍 Getting to Know You Through Mapping
🏺 Play-Doh Topography
📜 Mapping with Written Primary Sources

Teachers walked away with creative ways to use map skills for formative assessments, help students visualize change over time, and customize lessons for their own classrooms! We are so lucky to have teachers who lead the way and make learning awesome every day!

All CSD schools and administrative offices will be closed, including the 0-3 and Pre-K programs at College Heights ECLC and the Frasier Center. Families can expect to receive updates directly from their schools regarding specific plans for the Remote Digital Learning Day for individual sites.

The purpose of this day is two-fold:

Additionally, staff will have dedicated time for training and professional development.
