Building Skills & Exploring Future Careers!

Mrs. Larrison took six students to the Manufacturer’s Job Fair at the Decatur Public Library on Thursday, 9-24-26, where 14 local companies were represented from Decatur and surrounding communities.

In preparation for the event, students have been learning about the job interview process, researching companies, preparing questions, creating resumes, and learning how to dress professionally. Our students put their job-readiness skills into action today by introducing themselves to employers, asking questions, sharing their resumes, and exploring future career opportunities. One student completed and submitted his handwritten application to Fuyao, too!

Our graduating seniors dressed for success, built confidence, gained valuable real-world experience, and took another step toward their futures. And after all that hard work, they celebrated with a well-deserved Krekel’s lunch.

We are proud of our students for stepping up, putting themselves out there, and investing in their futures!

Mrs. Parrott's Biology students had some fun creating candy cell models!
They used different candies to represent the organelles while reviewing cell structure and function. Learning doesn't get much sweeter than this!

Walking down the hall just got a whole lot more inspiring! 🎨
Mrs. Hudson’s students have been hard at work researching iconic art masters for their “People of Influence” reports. From Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh to Georgia O’Keeffe and Jackson Po***ck, each banner highlights the artist's portrait, notable works, and fun facts discovered during their research.

We’re proud to welcome our newest students as they take their first steps toward a future in healthcare. Here’s to learning, growing, and discovering what’s possible! 💙 Heartland Technical Academy

Mrs. Larrison's Employability Skills classes welcomed special guest speakers Shauna Bohlmann and Kelli Murray, DPS Teaching & Learning Strategists for Career & College Readiness!

They spoke with students about how they can earn an OSHA-10 certification through just 10 hours of independent study—a valuable credential that can be added right to their high school diplomas. Currently, DPS district students at Futures Unlimited and Milligan Academy have the opportunity to work toward this certification, and plans are underway to expand the program to our county school students as well!

To make graduation day feel a little closer, students also had fun trying on caps and gowns while learning about the special graduation regalia and honors they can earn by completing additional pathways and courses of study.

We love seeing our students set goals and take big steps toward their future careers!

Today our students had an incredible opportunity to step into the future!

Thanks to Crystal Hoadley, an instructional coach from the Macon/Piatt Regional Office of Education #39 office, our students were able to experience hands-on learning through VR goggles. This experience, sponsored by Workforce Investment Solutions , allowed students to explore a variety of careers in a whole new way—right from the classroom.

From skilled trades to technical careers, students were able to see what their futures could look like and start thinking about the paths available to them after graduation.

We’re grateful for partnerships like this that bring real-world experiences to our students and help prepare them for success beyond school!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎✨

This week, we celebrate the incredible educators who inspire, guide, and shape the future every single day. Your patience, dedication, and passion don’t go unnoticed—even if we don’t say it enough.

Thank you for the long hours, the extra effort, and the genuine care you pour into your students. You make a difference that lasts a lifetime.

If you have a teacher who made an impact on you, take a moment to thank them this week. 💙
