Center left turn lanes are useful, but there are a few important rules to keep in mind.
Before entering or leaving the lane, signal, check surrounding traffic, and make sure your path is clear. It’s also important not to travel more than 200 feet in the center left turn lane.

A flashing yellow left turn signal means drivers must yield before making the turn.
That means checking for oncoming traffic, pedestrians, and anyone else with the right of way, then waiting for a clear opening before completing the turn.

Pedestrian safety is an important part of sharing the road. When turning, approaching a crosswalk, or driving through areas where people may be walking, take a moment to look carefully and be ready to yield.
A little extra caution can help keep everyone safer on the road.

Sometimes a center left turn lane can help you complete a left turn in two steps.
One approach is to first enter the center lane, then check traffic and move into the travel lane when there’s a safe opening. It can be a helpful option when completing the entire turn at once isn’t the best choice.
