Foggy Monday morning was a great day to clear out some more garden beds, haul away the debris and plant red clover seeds. Putting the garden to rest for winter although we still have warm afternoons.

The last couple weeks at Feed Fannin farm we have been in clean-up mode getting the fields tidied up for winter. The fields were tilled where the corn and okra were planted. Last Monday Curt took apart 4 rotten beds while we worked on getting some flowers and weeds cleaned up. Friday, Diane, Curt and Kathy raked and readied the fields for planting clover cover crop, moved the extra corn stalks out of barn into compost and cut and loaded rotted boards and bags of debris in Curt’s truck to take to dump.
Friday 2 trucks of mushroom compost soil was delivered to fill the new beds on Nov. 19 when they will arrive.

See what our fabulous Feed Fannin volunteers packed in supplemental boxes for Meals on Wheels clients this month! So far this year we’ve packed 493 boxes for distribution in our community. This project is a collaborative effort between Feed Fannin, Fannin County Family Connection and Fannin County Senior Center as we pursue a common goal to provide food for our neighbors.

The Feed Fannin Farm volunteers were happy to have the Heather Aultman and Jessica Tucker families visit again today to help with a few chores and also bring their friends, Marigold and Bruno who will be hanging out and spending the Fall season in the Research Garden. Thanks to these home-schoolers for their creativity and for bringing a touch of Fall to the Research Garden. Next time you pass on Ada Street, be sure to wave to Marigold and Bruno.

Feed Fannin’s beautiful Jeep made possible by the generosity of Impact100 Fannin. Shout out also to Blue Ridge Ace Hardware and Brian Higgins for the great new car magnets! , ; .

“And a special shout out to Feed Fannin Chair, Andy Livingston for taking the Jeep for a bath and vacuum this morning before adding the new car magnets. That car had gotten pret-ty dirty hauling around over 15,000 lbs of produce and garden supplies this summer! We’ve a few more weeks of produce from the garden to go, but the car is all clean and we’re getting geared up for transporting groceries this Fall. “

Today Feed Fannin was blessed to have 2 home schooled families visit again and help with a few chores. They weeded a couple raised beds and covered with fabric until Spring. They collected dry beans from the Research Garden to be used as seed next year. They were instructed about growing okra and learned how to harvest it. They harvested peppers then collected Cleome seed to take home and plant in their pollinator garden. Finally each family picked several bouquets of zinnias to take home. We love having them visit the farm!
