ode to the ooh la la top and the deering st. skirt, named after the most beautiful, historical street i lived on while in portland, maine, the birthplace of deering street diaries (my personal blog), as well as, the keeper of some of my fondest memories post nyc…
where woven plaid meets denim peplum down country roads, on city streets, and everywhere in between. these two gems are limitless when it comes to layering through your fall frolics into winter wanderings.🍂❄️

introducing, the newest member of the db team, miss penelope cruise! by morning she is my gym mobile so to secure a parking space, iykyk - blue ridge problems, by day she is sweet deerbird decor, and by night we’ll take to joyriding around town…
i’ve always been a biker chick. whilst living in nyc, my linus was my freedom machine, allowing escape from crowded trains and city traffic. living in the west village i’d zip up the west side highway to jobs and castings. in brooklyn, to photography school, the farmer’s market, and concerts in the park. i loved taking night rides beneath the city lights to the piers and staring out at the water, the skyline…
the last pic is of frankie. after leaving the city and selling linus, i moved to hilly portland, maine, and needed gears. we rode across casco bridge to teach yoga, to cape elizabeth to watch the waves crash upon the rocks and look out upon the lighthouses. to breweries and coffee shops. it was a fairytale year and a half…
i got nostalgic and missed that feeling of freedom, of wind in my hair, if only, now, for a few small town streets… penelope n me, chapter 3…
thank you Mitzi thomasson for my basket flowers.💐

the season is beginning to dream of something else.
you can feel it in the light.
it lingers differently now - falling slowly across the fields, catching in the tall grass, stretching itself across the mountains as if it, too, is reluctant to leave.
for now, the days remain soft around the edges.
there are still long roads to disappear down. wild places to wander into. dresses waiting to be carried through the grass. the warm earth beneath bare feet. the hum of afternoon. the beautiful, delicious illusion that there is nowhere else we are supposed to be.
and yet -
something is shifting.
somewhere beneath all of this golden stillness, the world is quietly becoming something new.
perhaps that is what makes this moment so tender.
we are standing between what has been and what is coming.
still held by summer.
already being called toward autumn.
and so the deerbird woman does what she has always done when life begins to change.
she goes outside.
she follows the road.
she lets the wind find her.
she wears something beautiful.
she does not mourn the turning of the world.
she turns with it…
