Derailments happen on the Eastern Cascades Railroad just like they do in the real world.
Hopefully our engineer knows what he’s doing.

Flashback to October's Open House in 2005 when the club got a good amount of snow. Still didn't stop us from running trains that year.

Not letting the cold weather get in the way of progress, we reached a major milestone in our container project. The concrete was poured for the foundations of the containers. Next step will be to place the containers and begin the track work. A special shout iut to member Dave and his team or their continued support of our club and many projects.
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel was just a freight train coming your way.

Our History
The Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club began in Bend, Oregon, in August 1989. With the help of some friends, Ernie George had the HO (1/87 scale) railroad up and running in four months. Over the next 4 years, Ernie planned, funded and oversaw the completion of scenery, landscaping, signaling, railroad scheduling and formation of the club that would ultimately operate the railroad.
In late 1993, the newly formed club, now a nonprofit organization, was moved to its current location on land donated by club member Larry Barker. Ernie funded construction of a 1,650 square foot building on the site and by December of 1994 the HO layout had a brand new home. Larry Barker had visions of a Christmas Tree farm where people could come out, ride on the inch and a half scale train and cut down their tree. Which would then be hauled back on a flat car to be loaded up and taken home. Sadly that dream of Larry’s never came to be but do get to enjoy the pleasure of riding through trees he planted years ago.
The Central Oregon Area Live Steamers operate and maintain an outdoor 1.5-inch scale railroad (1.5 inches = one foot), large enough for members and guests to enjoy riding. The layout includes several bridges (including a 60-foot bridge with concrete abutments), a turntable, timber retaining walls, and recently a new tunnel. Work completed in 2008 adding a new loop that doubled the trackage to more than 2300 feet. Another loop is currently in the works to go from the new tunnel across the field to the main loading area.
