Halloween is almost here! Whether you’re taking the kids trick-or-treating, handing out candy, or just driving through the neighborhood, a little extra caution can help keep everyone safe.

The National Safety Council has a few helpful reminders:

✔️ Add reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes so children are easier to see.

✔️ Stick to sidewalks, crosswalks, and well-lit areas.

✔️ Make sure young trick-or-treaters are accompanied by an adult.

✔️ Drivers, slow down and watch carefully for children crossing streets or walking near parked cars.

It’s been a calm hurricane season for South Louisiana, and we’re grateful for it. But the season officially runs through November 30, and late-season storms have caught the Gulf Coast off guard before.

A quiet stretch is actually the best time to get prepared, because nobody is rushing. Take a few minutes this week to:
- Look over your homeowners policy and check your deductible, especially your wind or named-storm deductible.
- Make sure you have flood coverage. Most standard homeowners policies don’t include it, and new flood policies usually have a waiting period before they take effect.
- Update your home inventory with photos or a quick video of each room.
- Restock your emergency kit and confirm your family’s plan.
