A page for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of Athens State University ATHENS STATE UNIVERSITY - IT'S HOW YOU FINISH. It's how you finish.

Founded in 1822, Athens State University is Alabama’s oldest continuously operating institution of higher learning in the state educational system. Athens State is one of only a few "upper division" universities in the entire country, meaning we serve primarily junior/senior transfer students and graduate students — individuals who are trying to balance the pursuit of a degree with work and family life. As a university that tailors to adult learners, we empathize with you and the obstacles you face, and we appreciate your commitment to success. Our commitment is providing the flexibility and affordability essential for your success while providing personalized support each step of the way. Athens State currently offers over 50 undergraduate majors and degree options, in addition to graduate programs, many of which can be completed 100% online. At Athens State, we understand it isn't how you began your education that matters. And a strong finish is only the beginning. Visit our website at athens.edu to learn more, or send us a direct message.

The Alumni Association enjoyed a gathering at the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention earlier this month. We always love getting to catch our alumni & friends coming back to campus to support our events.

Did you know the Fiddlers Convention is also a fundraiser to support student scholarships at Athens State? It's true! Each ticket sold makes a positive impact for our campus and students.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this year!

🗓️ It’s almost here!

In less than 48 hours, downtown Decatur turns into River Clay for our eleventh year. We could not be more excited to celebrate with you!

Want first dibs? Rendezvous is Friday night, and it’s your chance to see (and buy) the art before the crowds. Tickets are going fast at riverclay.org.

The forecast is looking perfect, so grab your friends, your family, and your well-behaved four-legged friends and come see us Saturday and Sunday on the Decatur City Hall lawn.

Coming from out of town? Our friends at Decatur Morgan County Tourism have discounted hotel rates ready for you at https://bit.ly/488qW98

A big thank-you to our Presenting Sponsor, Plastic Recyclers Southeast, Inc. ♻️
This year, they not only supported the festival but also invited North Alabama students to take on an unfamiliar medium for The Art of Recycling competition: recycled plastic. Don't miss the results!

Congressman Dale Strong has secured a $1 million federal funding award through the FY2026 appropriations process to support the renovation and expansion of Carter Hall at Athens State University.

The funding will support capital improvements to transform Carter Hall into a workforce development and multipurpose center designed to help prepare highly skilled workers from communities across North Alabama. The project will strengthen the university’s ability to support regional workforce needs, promote economic growth, and provide flexible space for training and community activities.

“The new workforce development center at Athens State University is an investment in North Alabama’s future, helping students gain the skills and experience they need to succeed,” said Congressman Dale Strong.
