✂️ Hair Tip Tuesday | Why Does One Side of Your Hair Always Look Better?
You know that one side of your hair that styles beautifully...and the other side that apparently has its own plans?
There's actually a reason for that!
Hair doesn't always grow in the same direction on both sides of your head. Growth patterns, cowlicks, and even the way you hold your styling tools can affect your results.
And here's something you might not realize: your dominant hand often makes one side easier to style than the other.
A few things to try:
• Pay attention to the direction your hair naturally wants to fall instead of forcing it into place.
• When curling, try changing the angle of your tool on the side that gives you trouble.
• Work in smaller sections on your challenging side so you have better control.
• If you're using a round brush, practice positioning your arm differently rather than trying to make both sides identical.
Sometimes it's not your haircut or your products. It's simply understanding how your hair grows and how you're styling it.
And trust me, this is something I hear about ALL the time.
Be honest...do you have a GOOD side and a BAD side when styling your hair?

🌿 Sunday Reset | Bring Back Something You Miss
This week’s invitation:
Think about something you used to enjoy that quietly disappeared from your life.
Maybe you used to bake, read before bed, work on puzzles, take pictures, garden, craft, play games, listen to entire albums, or spend Sunday mornings doing absolutely nothing.
Life changes, schedules change, and sometimes things we genuinely enjoyed just...fall away.
You don’t have to turn it back into a hobby or make a commitment to it.
Maybe you just try it again once.
What’s something you used to love doing that you’d like to bring back?
Take a deep breath, reset, and step into the new week one day at a time. 💚

🎃 Happy Halloween from Shortcuts Salon!
Whether you're spending the day handing out candy, watching scary movies, taking the kids trick-or-treating, or hiding from the doorbell with the lights off...I hope you have a fun one! 👻
You know I love spooky season, so I fully support squeezing every last bit of Halloween fun out of today before the pumpkins disappear and we suddenly find ourselves surrounded by Christmas. (I am guilty of this!)
Have a safe and Happy Halloween!
(Pictured are 2 of my fave Halloween decorations - it reminds me of Jim & I)
And now the important question...
What is the BEST Halloween candy?

🐾 Happy National Cat Day!
If you’ve sat in my chair for any length of time, there’s a pretty good chance you already know that I’m a cat person. (Just take a look around my studio 😆)
Cats have a way of completely taking over your house, your furniture, your camera roll…and somehow convincing you that everything belongs to them anyway.
So in honor of National Cat Day, I want to see YOUR cats!
Drop a photo in the comments and tell me their name—and even better if you tell me the weirdest thing they do. 🐈
Because I can talk hair all day at Shortcuts Salon in Appleton, but I’m ALWAYS willing to interrupt the conversation for cat pictures.

🍂 Hair Tip Tuesday | Take a Look at Your Hairbrush
Not to clean it—we've already talked about that.
I want you to actually look at it.
◾Are any of the bristles bent, cracked or missing their protective tips?
◾Does the brush snag when you run it through your hair?
◾Are there rough edges where the handle or cushion is starting to break down?
Hairbrushes don't last forever.
A worn-out brush can catch and pull at the hair instead of gliding through it, and sometimes we don't notice because the brush has slowly gotten worse over time.
Fall is a great time to give your styling tools a quick inspection before we head into the holiday season.
And while you're at it, check your combs, clips and elastics too. If something has a rough edge, exposed metal or constantly catches your hair, it's probably time for it to go.
When was the last time you actually replaced your hairbrush?

🌿 Sunday Reset | Change One Little Routine
This week’s invitation:
Do one ordinary thing differently.
We get so used to our routines that sometimes we stop noticing them.
Take a different route. Move your morning tea somewhere else. Listen to music while you make dinner. Shop at a different grocery store. Sit in a different chair. Try something new on the menu.
Nothing life-changing needs to happen.
Sometimes doing one familiar thing a little differently is enough to make the day feel less like you’re just going through the motions.
What’s one part of your routine you wouldn’t mind shaking up a little?
Take a deep breath, reset, and step into the new week one day at a time. 💚

⚾ When Your Hair Has TEAM SPIRIT!
Who says you have to wear a jersey to show your Brewers pride?!
For this salon guest, we started with a beautiful, rich mocha brunette and added some fun pops of blue and gold to celebrate the Milwaukee Brewers!
I love how the richness of the mocha creates the perfect backdrop for those playful pops of color. It's a fun way to show some team spirit without completely changing her look!
One of my favorite things about creating hair color at Shortcuts Salon in Appleton is finding ways to let my salon guests express their personalities and celebrate the things they love.
Because sometimes a little team spirit deserves a little HAIR flair!
Let's hear it, Brewers fans!
