Fake gold jewelry scammers are targeting people in the Lafayette area. Possibly surrounding areas.

There are scammers selling fake gold to people in parking lots, gas stations, and supermarkets in most cases.

Please help share this message and get the word out to save others from being taken advantage of.
Verbally talk with your elderly family/friends since some do not have social media.

Often it’s a family with small children claiming to be stranded or out of gas. Left their wallets at home, traveling. Any sob story they can come up with. They then offer real looking jewelry: often rings, necklaces, and watches they’re wearing — for CASH. They will be pushy.
Typically, the gold-looking jewelry is stamped 18 or 14 karat gold, but then the buyers take the jewelry to get it appraised, and it turns out to be gold plated or yellow brass. Just because it is stamped, doesn’t mean it is real.

This scam has been around for years and all over the country but has been popping up more recently here.

We have some amazing people here in our town, and most of the victims were just trying to help someone in need out of the kindness of their hearts. Plus you think you are getting a great deal. The truth is though, the scammers are not in need and just taking advantage of the generosity and good will in our friends and neighbors here in the Lafayette & surrounding areas.
