Happy Tuvaluan Language Week! πΉπ»π
Todayβs word of the day is βTino mo olotou manakoga fakapitoa,β which means βPersons with Disabilities.β π
In the past, the term βTino se Katoatoaβ was commonly used. However, this was later changed because the meaning of the term did not truly reflect or represent persons with disabilities and the different abilities and needs of each person. βΊοΈπ
We wish everyone a very Happy Tuvaluan Language Week! May this week be a meaningful and enjoyable opportunity for all Tuvaluans to learn more about our language, our culture, our history, and who we are as a people. ππΉπ»
Be curious about your heritage. Our language and culture are not boring or less important. They are a part of our identity, and something we should always be proud of. π
Our language is part of our story, and keeping it alive means keeping our identity alive. πΉπ»π

π LATE POST π
To commemorate International Sign Language Week 2026, Fusi Alofa Association visited some of our key stakeholders across Government and CSO partners and invited them to take part in a short video by signing in Sign Language. π€π½π
Sign Language is an important language and a vital form of communication for many Deaf and hard-of-hearing people. It supports equal participation, access to information, education, public services and everyday life. Promoting and recognising Sign Language helps create a society where everyone can communicate, be understood and participate equally. π€π½π₯Ήπ
We must continue to remind our Government, service providers and public institutions that information and services must always be accessible and inclusive for all persons with disabilities. Accessibility is not an extra. It is a right, and communication is an essential part of inclusion. π
Through initiatives like this, we can continue raising awareness, encouraging the use of Sign Language and building a more inclusive Tuvalu where everyone is seen, heard and included. πΉπ»π
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL SIGN LANGUAGE DAY 2026! π€π½π
Warm regards,
Fusi Alofa Association

Throughout these 3 days, we have been taking part in the Pacific Feminist Forum, creating an important space for learning, sharing, connecting and strengthening our voices across the Pacific.
For Fusi Alofa to be part of this movement for womenβs rights is truly meaningful. We are also grateful for the spaces hosted by PDF that allow OPDs and women with disabilities to be part of the movement, participate in important conversations, and make sure our experiences and voices are not left behind. ππ
Feminism reminds us that equality must include everyone. Women with disabilities, young women, LGBTQIA+ people, and women from small island communities all deserve spaces where their voices are heard, respected and valued. Inclusion should not simply be something we talk about. It should be something we practice through our actions, leadership and movements.
As Pacific feminists, we carry our own stories, cultures, identities and experiences. Our strength comes from standing together, challenging barriers and creating a Pacific where every woman and every person can participate equally and live with dignity, safety and freedom. πΊπβπ½
