It was raining when I was in Gifu to visit the danchi. Tried walking down 8 floors of the iron stairs in one block and it was very slippery. The see-through grille parapet gives me vertigo! Gaps between units break up the monolith. Another block is made up of double level units, each lift serving only a few units hence giving residents privacy.

Visited the danchi in Gifu which was designed by 4 female architects. This old overhead bridge with the curves caught my eyes the moment i got off the public bus as it contrasted with the hard lines of these brutalist new buildings.

Looking forward to exploring this beautifully designed danchi in Gifu next week!

Okuno Building is a well preserved modernist structure dating to the early Shōwa era. The space is tight which gives it its intimacy as one's gaze is forced to be up close to the interior hence seeing things in serendipitous frames.
