Word problems require more than calculation. Children need to understand what the question is asking, organise the information, and choose the right way to represent the problem.

That’s why modelling can be so powerful. When a child can clearly represent a word problem, they have a stronger starting point for solving it. 🔍

So if word problems are a struggle, don’t leave them until the end of revision. Make them part of the main practice.
