Yonatan Zeigen’s mother, respected peace activist Vivian Silver, was murdered on October 7th in Kibbutz Be’eri. Growing up with a parent active in cross-border peace work, he remembers spending time with her and her friends in Gaza, also discovering a barbed wire fence and watchtowers while playing on the beach there.
Three years after her killing he says “October 7th proved on thing: war kills people; violence makes everyone in its path vulnerable. The only way to generate safety is through peace.”
Three years ago, Yonatan’s mother was brutally killed by Hamas in her home’s safe room. For him, it was a moment that split his life into a before and an after. As the son of respected peace activist Vivian Silver, who would take him to visit her friends in Gaza, it didn’t change his own belief in the need for peace. What it changed was his need to take action to actually fight for and build a completely different reality.

At 4 a.m. today, Israeli forces raided a five-story building in Al-Tur, East Jerusalem, forced Palestinian families out with barely anything in their hands, and demolished 10 apartments — leaving around 70 Palestinians without their homes. The families had spent years facing demolition orders and enormous fines while authorities refused to grant them the permits they needed to build legally.
This is Ben-Gvir’s politics. This is what he wants people to see before they go to the polls: Palestinian homes coming down, Palestinian families being pushed out, more land taken from Palestinians, more violence, more domination. He is turning Palestinian displacement into an electoral campaign. He’s using ethnic cleansing to try to get votes. What he’s offering is destruction and another generation condemned to endless war.
And that is exactly why we cannot leave politics to people like him. The alternative is ordinarily Palestinians and Jews fighting together on the ground and building political power for equality, safety and peace. We will put an end to the ethnic cleansing, displacement and oppression.

We’re not stopping our solidarity and partnership with Palestinian communities in the West Bank. Last week, violent Israeli settlers attacked our activists while they were providing protective presence in Jannatah. Two days later, another organization organized protective presence for the olive harvest in Far’un, a Palestinian town near Tulkarm in the northwestern West Bank. Members of one of our local chapters showed up in solidarity and brought breakfast for the volunteers to raise their energy and morale. Because the answer to settler terror is to continue confronting it on the ground and growing the voice against it from within our society.

The olive harvest season has barely begun, and already Palestinians have been killed, beaten, shot at and driven from their land, while their trees, homes, vehicles, crops and equipment have been attacked by Israeli settlers. It is horrifying and enraging that families cannot simply reach their own land, pick their olives and earn their livelihood without fearing for their lives. No one should risk being killed for trying to feed their family. Palestinians must be able to live and work safely on their own land. Denying them that right through targeted violence, intimidation, and forced displacement is called terror.
