‘Magical place’: tourists see another side of Papua New Guinea’s most troubled region Tourism operators in PNG’s highlands offer access to lush scenery, adventure and culture – in contrast with the region’s dangerous image

The spectacular 500 meter escarpment that runs 40 Kilometers from Kunabau to Elimbari in the east, in old writings sometimes called the Great Wall of China or the North Wall also known as Chimbu Limestone in geological studies, is a limestone ridge uplifted from the seabed. Four hundred million years old fossil shells are still seen impeded on the rocks on the ridges.
This wall is cut deep in three places where the south flowing Kori, Chimbu and Mai rivers flows to the Wahgi.
As you drive from Kundiawa north along the Chimbu (Gembogl) valley, the road meanders along crossing the river many times, you observe this magnificent work of nature as far as Gogme.
The beautiful road has also become a must drive for visitor to Simbu and tourists climbing our highest mountain.
