NZ single and video reviews and reminiscences from the music industry in general. New features coming from late 2024.
Flash-trax.com owner and managing director Jack has been a pro musician for over 20 years. In this time he's recorded and released work, managed acts to international success, organised nationwide and international tours, and successfully ran an independent label for 8 years. Jack has been a reviewer and interviewer for some time and with his friends MusicNZ making the difficult decision to withdraw from reviewing promotional single and video releases from 1st July 2023, Jack decided to take up the mantle and do it instead. Additional to this, Jack is running a blog called From The Vault, which features a song that's made a mark on Jack's life at some point. It could be a world famous global smash, or a smaller, one-time hit. He'll briefly chat about it, you may see a brief chat with someone from the band itself, and then the video will play.

REALITY VERSUS AI
Time I made a statement on this. As a musician since the mid 1980s, and as a lover of the art form, I cannot and do not endorse the use of AI to create music that one intends to pass off as organic, human-created music. Typing a handful of prompts into a prompter and letting machine algorithms "create" a song is not art....

Trouble With Normal – I’m Not Sure
Ōtautahi based three-piece Trouble With Normal brings us rollicking new single I'm Not Sure. Recently I've been seeing another resurgence in 21st century New New Wave bands, bringing us today's interpretation of those chaotic days when Messrs Lydon, Jones, Matlock, Cook and Beverley (can you guess which one's real surname was Beverley?) had burned bright and faded away into folklore....

Narakel – Where Did Everybody Go?
R & B is a very competitive genre. Christchurch-born, Sydney based Kiwi singer Narakel appears to be aware of this, as he has started on a journey that refuses to be pigeon-holed directly into the genre at a basic level. New single Where Did Everybody Go? is a quality example of how this young artist is putting his desire to be unique into form....

Bridges – Drive
A really good, strong vocal is essential in driving (see what I did there?) a dream-pop track. From the deceptively delicate soprano of Kirsten Morrell for Goldenhorse to Amelia Murray's powerful contralto/mezzo soprano as Fazerdaze, there are any number of Kiwi artists who can lay claim to being the cojones-laden front person in Kiwi oriented guitar pop. Bridges…...

We Will Ride Fast – Unfurl Your Weeds feat. Frances Ellen
Hmmmm, interesting track. Okay, Unfurl Your Weeds from We Will Ride Fast is what I subjectively take to be a statement from its creator regarding where the message of the lyrics takes one audio moment by audio moment when one doesn't put up a fight. In having said this, I'll drop the EPK comment from the brains behind the song and the band, …...

Sunset Tsunami – Fire Got To Blaze, feat. Israel Starr and The Mighty Asterix
I was expecting club with a touch of reggae influence. Nope. This track is pure Reggae, and Reggae gold at that. Sunset Tsunami, collab of NZ and Sarf London natives Buckwheat and Sideway respectively, have joined forces with Kiwi Reggae heavyweights Israel Starr and The Mighty Asterix, and together they take us not to the dub-driven streets of South Auckland or Peckham, but, to my ear anyway, right to the government chop in Trenchtown, Kingston, Jamaica....
