Gallery Thirty Three is pleased to present Loveletters from nowhere Part Three: The Storm by Auckland based artist Sean Beldon. This stunning exhibition is available online or in the gallery at 33 Helwick Street, Wānaka.

Fifteen years ago I came back to painting and this is my latest show in four chapters: Loveletters from nowhere.

The Loveletters from nowhere works are not unlike ‘wish you were here’ postcards. The compositions have thoughts attached with each painting connected to a place or person. It is not important to know the details, but the details were important for the creation.

Our Curators' Pick this week is: Vale of Nysa Triptych by Mangōnui based artist Anna Evans. Being from the typically grey-skied Manchester, Evans' remembers feeling awestruck by the rich and vibrant colours present in sky, sea, flora and fauna. It is these early observations of light, vivid colour, textures and diverse ecosystems that continue to inform Evans’ work. This stunning work is available online or in the gallery at 33 Helwick Street, Wānaka

Congratulations Eliza Glyn on your current exhibition Perpetual Motion at Eastern Southland Gallery!

From her studio in Port Chalmers, Glyn maintains a sustained painting practice shaped by close observation, memory and constructed atmosphere. Her still life’s bring together domestic objects, collected ceramics, textiles and art materials, creating intimate arrangements that emerge from the interplay between everyday family life and the objects from her studio space. These paintings become visual narratives in which her family life and artist life converge, each work telling a story of the continual meeting of the domestic and the creative.

Congratulations Simon Kaan on being awarded the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship for 2027! With a practice deeply shaped by and grounded in his local community, this appointment is incredibly well-deserved. We can’t wait to see the outcome of your residency!

Ōtepoti artist Simon Kaan’s (Waitaha, Kāti Mamoe, Kāi Tahu) practice sits within spaces that navigate both his Kāi Tahu and Chinese whakapapa
