Wellington creatives, our October meet-up is locked in!

The Wellington Content Creators Collective is all about creating a space for those of us working in commercial content to get out from behind the cameras and laptops and actually connect with each other.

No presentations. No awkward networking. No sales pitch.

Just a bunch of photographers, videographers, designers, social content creators, marketers and other creative humans getting together over a drink or bite to eat to talk shop, share what’s happening in our businesses, swap ideas and build genuine connections.

Because we’re big believers in community over competition and there’s plenty of room for all of us to do great work in Wellington! 🔥

Our next monthly Meet-Up is:

📅 Thursday 15 October
⏰ 6.00pm
📍 Gear Street Union, Petone

Come as you are, order whatever you fancy on the night and settle in for a super relaxed catch-up.

Already part of the crew? We can’t wait to see you again!

Haven’t joined us before? You’re VERY welcome. Flick us a DM so we can add you to the table numbers.

See you in Petone! 🙌🏻

People talk.
And it turns out, that’s been one of the most powerful marketing tools we’ve ever had.

Someone works with us.
They tell someone about us.
That person tells someone else.
And somehow, that little trail leads back to our inbox.

It happens all the time.

Wellington might be the capital, but its business community can feel incredibly small.

People know people.
Relationships overlap.
And a genuine recommendation from someone you trust carries a weight that no ad, Reel or perfectly crafted newsletter ever quite can.

Some of the biggest opportunities we’ve had started with a simple:
“You should talk to Riddle Media.”

We recently put our hat in the ring for a business award focused on excellence in service and support. Who knows how we’ll go, but the process made us dig pretty deeply into how we’ve built this business and what has driven its growth.

One thing came through louder than anything else:
Relationships.

The relationships we have with our clients.
The trust that comes from working together again and again.
The friendships that have grown along the way.
The Wellington business community that continues to connect, recommend and champion one another.

Of course we market ourselves. We post. We email. We network. We show up.
But our clients and community talking about their experience of working with us?
We could never manufacture that kind of marketing.
We have to earn it.

And as we rocket towards the end of another year, we're feeling pretty emotional looking at how far this little husband-and-wife team has come to be honest.

We’ve kept our heads down, worked bloody hard, cared deeply about the people we work with and tried to do a really great job every single time.

And somewhere along the way, you guys started talking about us.

So to every person who has recommended us, tagged us, introduced us, brought us into another project or simply said “I know someone you should talk to”…
Thank you.

You’ve built this business alongside us more than you probably realise 🫶

“I’m terrible on camera.”

If we had a dollar for every client who’s told us that before a shoot… 😂

The truth is, most of the people you see talking to camera in our content aren’t presenters. They’re builders, business owners, tradies, experts, team members and people who may have barely spent any time in front of a professional camera before.

And that’s kind of our jam.

Talking-to-camera content is one of our absolute favourite things to create because there’s no better way for your audience to get to know the actual human behind the business.

Your face. Your voice. Your mannerisms. Your knowledge. The way you explain something. The little bits of personality that could never come through in a stock image or perfectly polished graphic.

But getting good soundbites doesn’t start when we hit record.

We do the work beforehand.

We understand what you want to talk about. We plan the key talking points. We know what stories or knowledge we want to draw out of you. And when the camera rolls, we’re right there having a conversation with you - prompting, encouraging, asking another question when we know there’s more to get out of an answer and bringing plenty of energy from behind the camera.

No memorising paragraphs.
No expectation of delivering everything perfectly in one take.
No trying to turn you into someone you’re not.

And one of the coolest things we’ve seen is what happens when clients do this with us again and again.

A few shoots in, the shoulders drop. The answers flow more naturally. They know they can start again if they fluff a word. Their personality comes through more. And suddenly the person who once told us “I hate being on camera” is absolutely nailing it.

Because being comfortable on camera isn’t necessarily something you’re born with.

It’s a muscle. And every time you flex it, it gets a little stronger.

So if you’ve been telling yourself you can’t talk to camera?

We bet you can 🎥😉🎬

There’s nothing quite like a one-take-wonder testimonial 🙌🏻🎥🎬

We couldn’t resist grabbing a quick soundbite from Dr Paul Wood while we were filming together recently, and we promise, we didn’t even have to twist his arm! 😂

We’ve worked with Paul on many projects over the years, and building long-term client relationships like this is one of our favourite parts of what we do.

Because having a camera pointed at you can feel daunting. Our job isn’t just to capture and produce great content, it’s to make the whole experience feel relaxed, easy and, dare we say it, actually pretty fun.

Thanks for the very kind words, Paul. We’ll happily keep making you look good! although you make that job pretty easy! 🔥👏🏻
